SYDNEY, July 8 AAP - NSW star Jarryd Hayne has been ruled out of the rugby league State of Origin Series decider and replaced on the wing by Newcastle's James McManus.

Hayne was ruled out by team doctor Nathan Gibbs on Monday after undergoing a medical check on his hamstring injury.

He hadn't played since tearing his hamstring while turning out for Parramatta just 48 hours after playing a starring role in Origin I on June 5.

McManus is due to arrive in camp later Monday after playing in Mackay for Newcastle on Sunday.

The Scotsman hasn't played Origin since his one and only appearance in the sky blue in the 2009 series opener.

He comes into the side as one of the form wingers in the NRL, having scored five tries in the past two matches, including four in the round 16 win over Gold Coast.

While he comes in for Hayne, McManus will essentially replace Nathan Merritt, who was dropped after enduring a nightmare Origin debut in game two in Brisbane.

Earlier on Monday Hayne said he would need a miracle to play in the series finale, admitting Sydney's big wet last week had hampered his recovery.

"Last week the weather didn't help with how wet the track was - the last three sessions were real wet and boggy and I couldn't really get much speed and volume," he said.

"It was just putting that extra bit of pressure on my hammy which didn't help."

Meanwhile, Blues backrower Greg Bird arrived in camp late, limping heavily in a moon boot but still hopeful of playing in game three.

Bird injured his ankle playing for the Titans on Saturday night.

"I give myself a fighting chance," said Bird as he made his way to the team medical.
