GOLD COAST, Qld, Aug 16 AAP - Ashley Harrison is enjoying his unlikely transformation into an NRL five-eighth but don't expect him to take much credit for reviving Gold Coast's NRL finals bid.

The ex-Queensland Origin backrower will seeking to extend a perfect record in the No.6 jumper when the Titans put their eighth spot on the line against in-form North Queensland in Townsville on Saturday.

Thrust into the makeshift role due to a sternum injury to Albert Kelly, Harrison has combined with halfback Aidan Sezer in wins over Wests Tigers and Canterbury that reversed a horrible four-game losing streak.

"Aidan Sezer runs the show and I'm just being his wingman," Harrison told reporters.

"I try and direct them around the best I can when the opportunity comes - just more communication-wise is where I come into it.

"It seems to be working so far and we've just got to keep improving."

Harrison will come up against some former Maroons teammates on Saturday night and is only too aware of Johnathan Thurston's capabilities as a match-winner.

But rather than direct confrontation, he says much of the task of nullifying the Cowboys' key weapon lies is in blunting the impact of Test props Matt Scott and James Tamou.

"They've got two Australian front-rowers ... We're going to have to match them in the middle of the field just to limit Thursto's time," said Harrison.

"If we do that we'll be in with a great shot."

The Cowboys, who have also won their past two matches, will go into the match knowing anything less than a win will surely end their finals hopes.

Outgoing coach Neil Henry named the same 17 that beat Penrith last weekend while the Titans are hoping the same team which beat the Bulldogs on Monday night can back up in Townsville.
