SYDNEY, May 3 AAP - Sydney Roosters back-rower Aidan Guerra admits memories of the gut-wrenching loss to St George Illawarra on Anzac Day have been difficult to shift.

The Roosters snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in a pulsating clash at Allianz Stadium, letting slip an eight-point lead with four minutes remaining to go down 28-24.

Guerra said the result was harder to take as it was the team's best performance of the season, but insists it would give them confidence to beat an injury-hit Newcastle on Sunday.

"It was pretty sombre in the sheds after the Dragons game," Guerra told AAP.

"We were outstanding for 76 minutes but turned off at the end and were punished."

It was a case of the shoe being on the other foot for the Roosters, who performed a similar comeback to beat South Sydney in the opening round of the season.

"I guess we now know what it feels like, and I can say for certain, it is not very nice losing like that," he said.

"But all we can do is take the positives from how we played for most of the game against the Dragons and build on it."

Guerra has been one of the shining lights for the Roosters this season, with the young Queenslander scoring two tries in five games, having missed three matches through injury.

He was sidelined with an ankle problem, but it was only a minor issue for the 24-year-old, who suffered two serious breaks to the joint early in his career when playing at Melbourne.

And Guerra is keen to shed his injury-prone tag that's seen him make just 28 appearances since his debut in 2010.

"I've had my fair share of injuries and it has been difficult," he said.

"But I have managed to get a run of games together here in first grade and that is what I need to do," he said.

"I am at a stage of my career where I should have played a lot more than I have. But I feel really strong at the moment and fingers-crossed I can stay fit and help the side to a good season."
