SYDNEY, Sept 5 AAP - Dumped by the Wests Tigers for the 2012 season, Cronulla prop Bryce Gibbs is preparing for the ultimate revenge - an NRL premiership.

Gibbs was let go by the Tigers to make way for Kiwi backrower Adam Blair at the joint venture club, which failed to make this season's final series.

Ahead of the Sharks' elimination final against Canberra on Sunday, Gibbs said he had used his sacking by the Tigers as motivation throughout the Sharks' impressive season.

"I spoke to one of the boys this morning, called him up to see how he was going and he was in bed and I'm on my way to training, so that felt good," he said.

"When you get shown the door you train really hard and hopefully the right things come your way and they have."

Alongside fellow Tigers discard Andrew Fifita, Gibbs has helped to bolster the Sharks pack behind captain Paul Gallen and had been a key figure in their charge to their first final series appearance since 2008.

The Sharks have beaten every top eight team this year except for Canterbury and despite their lacklustre performance against North Queensland Gibbs was adamant the Sharks can make an impact in September.

In their last match-up with the Raiders, Cronulla lost 36-4.

"We have been competitive in all our games and apart from last weekend our defence has been pretty good," Gibbs said.

"We knew we had a good team at the start of the season and hopefully we can get a win this weekend and go on with it.

"I'm preparing to come back here next Monday and start training again."
