SYDNEY, Sept 17 AAP - If Paul Gallen wasn't already public enemy No.1 in Queensland, the Cronulla skipper is sure to irk a few more Cowboys after calling on North Queensland to stop using the seventh-tackle try saga as an excuse for being bundled out of the NRL finals.

Gallen said the Cowboys needed to move on from their claim that Saturday's refereeing howler at Allianz Stadium cost them the 20-18 defeat.

"I think they are (carrying on) now," Gallen told Sky Sports Radio on Tuesday.

"It's a mistake and we don't want to see it happen. I'd probably be a bit upset too.

"But to say it's cost them the game and a conspiracy theory ... no-one knew it was seventh tackle on the field.

"The seventh tackle didn't make Sam Tagataese run over four blokes or their centre and winger miss a tackle (for us to) score a try.

"Unfortunately human error happens sometimes by the referees.

"To call it a conspiracy - I said to someone yesterday, it's like me coming out and saying it's a conspiracy Queensland win the Origin the past eight years when you look at Greg Inglis' or Justin Hodges' try in last year's series.

"I think while it's a mistake, we've got to get on with it."

Gallen said the Cowboys had enough opportunities to win the sudden-death final in the 72 minutes after on-field referees Matt Cecchin and Henry Perenara wrongly awarded Beau Ryan's try.

"To say it cost them the game, I think they're using that as an excuse," Gallen said.

"I think it's just time to get on with it."
