Hull FC head coach Peter Gentle has praised his pack for laying the foundation for this after Sunday's 58-10 victory over Widnes Vikings.

The Black and Whites ran in 10 tries in a dominant performance at the KC Stadium, with the powerful Hull forwards helping themselves to eight tries in total, including four for Danny Tickle and a brace for Willie Manu.

And with other stand-out performances from Andy Lynch and Danny Houghton, Gentle felt his side had seized control over the game through the middle of the field.

"I was really pleased with the forwards today, but they have been strong for us all season and they maybe reaped the rewards this afternoon," he said.

"Our pack are really confident in each other at the moment and are going very well as a unit. We are strong through the middle and Danny and Willie are a real handful on the edges.

"We were looking to play Danny through the middle this season but it became clear very early at training that he is more suited to the edge and he's been very solid for us there.

"He runs some great lines and is a very smart player who keeps the opposition guessing. With Willie Manu on the other side, there is some real threat there but everybody is working hard to give us a platform to play from."

In a one-sided encounter, the Black and Whites had built a 58-0 lead going into the final 10 minutes, only for Widnes winger Paddy Flynn to score a late double.

Admitting he was frustrated at how his side finished the game, Gentle believes there is still plenty of room for improvement.

"The boys are not in the dressing rooms high-fiving as they know we can be a whole lot better," said the former Wests Tigers and Australia assistant.

"We did all the hard work in the first half and let it slip in the final 20 minutes, which is a bit frustrating. The good sides play for the full 80 minutes and we need to do the same, but this is still a good foundation for us to build from.

"There is room for us to be more clinical in certain areas but we are very happy with the performance and the two points."
