SYDNEY, June 15 AAP - Parramatta claimed an unlikely 14-6 halftime lead in their NRL clash with Cronulla on Saturday night.

Heavy underdogs leading into the clash, despite winning the fixture between the two clubs earlier in the season, the Eels started the stronger.

Centre Ryan Morgan, who scored a double against the Sharks in round five, again used his pace to burn opposite Ben Pomeroy to set up winger Ken Sio for the game's opener after just five minutes.

The Sharks responded with their own 60m effort 20 minutes later when back-rower Wade Graham burst through some lazy defence and scampered 40 metres.

When confronted by the fullback, he sent the ball infield and found halfback Jeff Robson, who did well to get the ball down despite a valiant tackle by Joseph Paulo.

Shortly before halftime, Brayden Wiliame, in just his second NRL game, capitalised on a smart offload by Cheyse Blair to score his first career try.

Eels halfback Chris Sandow kicked three from three, including a penalty just before the break, to give the visitors an eight-point halftime lead.
