Canterbury have moved to outright first on the NRL ladder for at least one night following last night's gutsy 20-12 victory over rivals Manly.

BEN BARBA scored two tries and played a starring role in coach DES HASLER'S first match at Brookvale Oval since leaving the Sea Eagles at the end of last season

In the night's other match, Gold Coast produced an upset 14-10 victory over local rivals Brisbane.

Tonight, Melbourne can join Canterbury at the top when they take on Parramatta, while South Sydney face St George Illawarra and the Warriors host Newcastle.
