The group aiming to re-establish Crusaders as a professional Rugby League team are asking fans to attend an open meeting at the Centenary Club at the Racecourse this Thursday at 7.30pm, to discuss the invitation from the RFL to apply for a place in Cooperative Championship 1.

A bid to join the division above, the Championship, was rejected on Friday by the Rugby Football League after W Crusaders Ltd. who previously owned and operated the Super League Club, entered liquidation. Therefore any club wishing to continue in Wrexham would have to enter at Championship 1 level.

Jamie Thomas, head of the SavetheCru campaign said: "Friday was obviously a bit of a disappointment, but understandable given the recent events. We agree with the RFL that we must be certain that any future club is both sustainable and competitive, therefore we can understand that Championship One may be seen as the best way to achieve that.

"We've had meetings on Monday with the Crusaders Supporters Club and whilst the mood is positive, it is essential all fans get the opportunity to contribute and pass comment on our plans. Whilst we are keen to get everyone involved, unfortunately due to the time constraints we've had to hastily arrange this meeting so we're hoping despite that as many people can come as possible.

"We'll give a brief presentation to fans on the structure of the proposed club, ownership, funding and key issues such as coach and player recruitment. It's important if we do go ahead we are certain the fans are behind us and therefore it's essential everyone gets the opportunity to have their say".

The meeting is planned for 7.30pm on Thursday 29th September at the Centenary Club, Racecourse Ground, Wrexham.
