by NRLSouth Wales Scorpions have had two players, Kevin James and Nathan Mossop, named in the Co-operative Championship 1 Team of the Month for May.
The team, that is voted for by the Championship 1 club head coaches, was announced in Rugby League World magazine that was released today (Friday).
James was selected for the mythical line-up after scoring a try a game in his first three games of professional Rugby League. The former Neath RFC favourite has been on top form since his recent conversion to the 13-man game and his strength at centre, alongside fellow convert Tom Morgan, has been an inspiration to the Scorpions throughout last month.
Mossop has been as solid as ever at hooker, scoring a hat-trick of tries in Scorpions' 32-30 win over Rochdale last month. He still leads the try scoring charts for Scorpions this season but just one behind is Steve Parry, another of the Scorpions' stand-outs throughout May. He was unlucky not to make the line-up, coming in second in the scrum-half rankings to Barrow's Liam Campbell, who ended up with the Player of the Month award for May.
Scorpions' coach Dave Clark said: "I'm delighted that two of our players have been chosen in the Team of the Month.
"Kevin has taken to Rugby League really well. It's remarkable that this is his first ever month playing Rugby League. Congratulations to him by being recognised by opposition coaches so early in his Rugby League career.
"Nathan is a one of our core players and it's only right that he is also recognised in this way. He's also had an outstanding month, he's worked hard and scored some excellent tries.
"Very unlucky to Steve Parry that he didn't get into the Team of the Month too. It's been the first month where we've moved him to half-back so he and Nathan can be on the field at the same time. Our two wins in the last two games and the contribution that both players have made, just shows this has worked."
There is no first team game for South Wales Scorpions this weekend but all three of their junior sides are playing in a triple header of matches against London Broncos at Bedwas RFC on Saturday with the first game starting at 12.45pm.
COOPERATIVE CHAMPIONSHIP 1 OF THE MONTH FOR MAY: Andy Ballard (Barrow Raiders), Elliot Miller (Workington Town), Lee Waterman (Doncaster), Kevin James (South Wales Scorpions), Ade Adebisi (London Skolars), Jamie Rooney (Whitehaven), Liam Campbell (Barrow Raiders), Jamie Thackray (Workington Town), Nathan Mossop (South Wales Scorpions), Dave Houghton (Whitehaven), James Gordon (Barrow Raiders), Jarrad Stack (Workington Town), Carl Rudd (Whitehaven).
