Jets 2013 pre-season squad will have their last training session tomorrow afternoon (Thursday, 20th December) and will then adjourn for a short break over the Christmas and New Year period. They will recommence on Thursday, 3rd January 2013.

Head coach Greg Matterson and Assistant-Coaches Darryl Neville and Daniel Wortley advise that there about 20 players training with the Newtown pre-season squad, plus others training with the full-time Sydney Roosters NRL squad. The coaching staff report that the squad has worked particularly well and in a most professional manner. The boys utilise a number of well-appointed and scenic training locations, such as last Sunday morning when the squad trained at Rose Bay. They rowed kayaks from Rose Bay to Milk Beach (Vaucluse) and back, and then completed a high speed ball-work session in Lyne Park.

There are several lads who have moved on from the 2012 premiership-winning squad: Peni Tagive (retired), Justin Carney (Castleford), Francis Vaiotu (France and Mounties), Mark Kheirallah (France), Mose Masoe (Penrith), Jack Littlejohn (trialling with the NSW Waratahs) and Glenn Dumbrell (Wagga Kangaroos in Group 9). We wish all of these men well in their future endeavours and thank them for their outstanding contributions in 2012.

The 2013 trials program has been announced and is as follows:

Saturday, 9th February 2013, v Canterbury-Bankstown at Belmore Oval; kick-off time to be confirmed.

Sunday, 17th February 2013, v Manly-Warringah at Henson Park; kick-off at 5.00pm.

Saturday, 23rd February 2013, v Wests Tigers at Allianz Stadium,; kick-off time to be confirmed.

The 2013 VB NSW Cup competition draw will be displayed on the NSWRL website (www.nswrl.com.au) and on the Newtown RLFC website (www.newtownjets.com) as soon as possible.

Newtown's first three VB NSW Cup competition games are:

Round One - Saturday, 9th March 2013; v Illawarra at WIN Stadium, Wollongong; kick-off at 3.00pm.

Round Two - Saturday, 16th March 2013; v Auckland Vulcans at Eden Park, Auckland; kick-off at 3.00pm (NZ Time). This is part of a triple-header with the NZ Warriors v Sydney Roosters playing in the Toyota Cup and NRL following the Vulcans-Newtown match. This will be a most historic occasion for the Newtown Jets in having the opportunity to play at the major sporting stadium in New Zealand.

Round Three - Saturday, 23rd March 2013; v North Sydney at Henson Park; kick-off at 3.00pm.

The NSWRL has advised that there will be live coverage of selected VB NSW Cup fixtures on Fox Sports TV in 2013 (more details to follow).
