LIMERICK, Ireland, Nov 10 AAP - Daly Cherry-Evans is hopeful a pair of eye-catching performances will be enough to extend his Rugby League World Cup dream.

But the rising Manly playmaker faces a nervous wait to see if he figures in coach Tim Sheens' plans for next week's quarter-finals and beyond.

Cherry-Evans made the most of a second successive start in the halves for Australia, turning in a man-of-the-match performance in Saturday's 50-0 win over Ireland in Limerick.

The Clive Churchill medallist scored a try and had a hand in several others as he stepped in for the rested Johnathan Thurston at five-eighth.

Cherry-Evans was similarly impressive playing at halfback in last week's 34-2 win over Fiji.

While the 24-year-old is unlikely to displace Thurston or Cooper Cronk in the starting side, he's battling with Robbie Farah for a utility spot on the bench.

His performances could make it hard for Sheens to leave him out of the side, but Cherry-Evans is unsure whether he has done enough to keep a spot in the 17.

"When I come off a footy field, I like to think I've given everything I could," Cherry-Evans said.

"But whether I've done enough will be up to Tim.

"Any opportunity I get to play for my country is very special and not only the number seven but the number six. They've been really enjoyable occasions and I'd love for more of them to come."

Cherry-Evans said he would cherish the past fortnight, regardless of whether he earned selection for Saturday's quarter-final against the United States in Wrexham.

And at a World Cup where jersey-swapping has become fashionable again, Cherry-Evans has no plans to trade his.

"I've thought about the players that have worn those jerseys over the years - there's some really big names," he said.

"I'll be keeping those jerseys very close to my heart and I look forward to taking them home and showing mum and dad and my partner."
