Jets, the foundation club of Rugby League in Australia, will celebrate their 105th birthday on Tuesday.

The Jets are currently in full preparation for the 2013 season after winning the 2012 VB NSW Cup premiership. You can keep in touch with all the latest Jets training news on Twitter:

2013 will be a year with several significant anniversaries for the Newtown RLFC. Among these anniversaries are:

The 80th anniversary of Newtown's victory in the 1933 NSWRL first grade premiership.

The 70th anniversary of Newtown's famous 1943 first grade premiership victory against North Sydney. Frank "Bumper" Farrell captained Newtown and Frank Hyde captained the North Sydney side.

The 40th anniversary of Newtown's Wills Cup Final (the NSWRL pre-season competition) victory against St George at the Sydney Sports Ground on the night of the 17th March 1973.

1973 was also the year that the Newtown RLFC formally adopted the use of the Jets nickname and emblem.

Under the coaching of the one and only Jack Gibson, Newtown won the 1973 NSWRL Club Championship (the Flowers Memorial Pennant) ? an extraordinary achievement for a club with such limited financial and juniors resources.

And ? 2013 marks 30 years since Newtown's last season in the top tier competition of the NSW Rugby League. Newtown's last-ever first grade game was a 9-6 victory over the Canberra Raiders at what was then Orana Park, Campbelltown on the 27th August 1983.

Newtown's first trial match for 2013 is against Canterbury-Bankstown at Belmore Oval on Sunday, 10th February. The exact kick-off time is to be confirmed but the game will most certainly be in the late afternoon.
