SYDNEY, May 4 AAP - Three tries in the last five minutes of the first half have catapulted Canterbury into a 22-12 lead over Parramatta in Friday's NRL clash at ANZ Stadium.

Tries from Josh Morris and efforts from Tim Lafai and Dene Halatau on the stroke of halftime helped claw back a 12-4 deficit against an Eels side looking to avoid an eighth defeat of the year and their worst start to a season in 52 years.

Morris scored the first of two tries in the 13th minute - his 50th in Bulldogs colours - to open the scoring, but the hosts hit back well with Ryan Morgan and Ken Sio crossing and Luke Burt added the extras to give their side the lead.

The under-fire Eels looked composed and played in a positive fashion for the first half-hour, before the Bulldogs burst into life.

Morris going over for his second in the 35th minute, before centre Lafai and back-rower Halatau burst through some shoddy defence to score.

Bryson Goodwin kicked three goals for Des Hasler's side.
