SYDNEY, July 13 AAP - Another sensational try from the freakishly-talented Ben Barba lit up a entertaining first-half at ANZ Stadium, as Canterbury opened up a 16-6 lead over Parramatta in Friday's NRL encounter.

Leading through an early try from Josh Morris, Canterbury increased their lead in the 10th minute when Barba fielded a Chris Sandow grubber-kick in front of his own posts, shrugged off three tackles, and ran the length of the field to score.

It was the worst possible start for the Eels, who lost Fuifui Moimoi in the opening hit-up when he slipped and was collected across the jaw by the arm of Sam Kasiano, who was placed on report.

The signs looked ominous for the Eels, who shipped 34 points in the first half against Manly last week, but they responded well with a Ken Sio try from a Luke Kelly kick.

The try kick-started a dominant 20-minute spell of possession from the visitors, but they were unable to breach the Bulldogs' impressive defence for a second time.

That profligacy proved to be costly and Morris added his second try from the last play of the half, after Sio knocked on a Josh Reynolds kick.

From the resulting scrum, Barba teed up the NSW centre for his 16th of the season.

Krisnan Inu kicked two conversions for the Bulldogs, with Luke Burt scoring one for the Eels.
