Jamie Lester has been named Team Canada Wolverines head coach for the 2011 season, with 2010 coach Kieron Putill remaining with CRL in an advisory role.

Lester's road to his first international appointment as a head coach began in 2000, when he received a Prime Minister's Sport Scholarhip to study a Bachelor of Recreation Management at Lincoln University. In 2005 he attained a Graduate Diploma in Physical Education at Canterbury University. In 2006 and 2007 Lester was employed by New Zealand Rugby League as the Development Manager for the Canterbury province.

During his playing career he represented the South Island team in 2003 and Canterbury provincial from 2002 to 2007, before moving to Leeds where he played for the Hunslet Hawks in the National League One. Along the way, Lester played alongside former Kiwi internationals Aaron Whittaker and Logan Edwards, and current NZ Warriors and Kiwis stars Simon Mannering and Lewis Brown. From a coaching perspective, Lester has been able to acquire knowledge from some of New Zealand's finest coaches including former Kiwis Brent Stuart and Terry Hermansson, former Super League and Great Britain international Graeme Hallas, and more recently as Canada's assistant coach under current St Helens' assistant and CRL coaching advisor Kieron Purtill.

Lester's coaching path began in 2003, coaching the Riccarton Knights under 18's before becomming player/coach for Canterbury University, and head coach of Lincoln University and the Canterbury provincial under 18's. In 2010, Lester coached the Canadian Wolverines in their first international for a decade in a narrow 22 -16 loss to the USA Tomohawks. "It is both exciting and a great honour to be named as the coach of the Canada Wolverines for 2011". Lester remarked upon receiving the news.

"If asked five years ago, I would have never dreamed I would be coaching a national team. I am looking forward to working with some familiar faces and enthused to discover some new stars. I am quietly confident that 2011 will be a great year for the Wolverines."

CRL Chairman Eric Perez was equally as enthusiastic about the season to come. "Jamie, has proven time and time again that he is more than up to the challenge of coaching at the international level. We predict great things for the Wolverines and feel that under Coach Lester, the Wolverines will do every Canadian proud."

Jamie Lester will get his first challenge as head coach in 2011 when Canada take on Jamaica on July 31st in Toronto.
