The Board of the Wynnum Manly Seagulls has announced that Jon Buchanan has been appointed as Head Coach for the 2014 season.

Buchanan took over the reins of the club after Graham Murray became unwell earlier in the year. Buchanan stepped into a difficult role and has handled the position extremely well.

Seagulls CEO Scott Thornton believes Buchanan is the best possible candidate for the job.

“I have been impressed by the work Jon has done this year. He has been able to bring the playing group together and manage not only the football operations but also to deal with what is required off the field,” Thornton said.

“Jon has been a dedicated coach for a number of years and he has proven that he has what it takes to be a successful coach at this level.”

Buchanan now has his opportunity to coach an Intrust Super Cup team for the entire season. He will be able to influence recruitment and retention at the club and put in place the off season required to win a premiership.

The Wynnum Manly Seagulls have also today opened up all positions under the head coach.

Thornton said: “We have fantastic people in our club, and we constantly have interest from people wanting to join us. We want JB to have the best possible staff so we will give people the opportunity to apply for Colts, A Grade and assistant Cup roles within the club.”

All applications and enquiries should be directed to Scott Thornton - CEO Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

* Meanwhile, the Seagulls recorded a 46-16 victory over the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles yesterday to move back into fourth spot.

They will stay in that position if the Ipswich Jets fail to beat the Redcliffe Dolphins.

John Te Reo grabbed two tries for the defending premiers, who meet the Northern Pride in the final round.

Wynnum Manly Seagulls 46 (John Te Reo 2, Corey Norman, Matt Grieve, Matt Seamark, Jake Granville, Luke Dalziel-Don, Graham Clark tries; Matt Seamark 7 goals) def Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles 16 SEAGULLS (Kevin McKenzie, Dale Middleton, Jordan Meads tries; Dale Middleton 2 goals) at Stockland Stadium.
