Scott Bolton will extend his NRL career with North Queensland to a seventh season after agreeing to a new one-year deal.

The 25-year-old forward, who has played nine games in the 2012 Telstra Premiership season to take his career total to 82, thinks his best football is still ahead of him.

"One of my goals was to play 100 games for the Cowboys and this new contract is going to help me achieve that," Bolton said.

"I've had problems with a few injuries in the last couple of years, but I'm over those and I feel like I've started to play more like I'm capable of in the last few weeks.

"Hopefully I can finish off this year by contributing to what could be a very exciting time for the Cowboys and then I can look forward to being with the club again in 2013."

Toyota Cowboys General Manager - Football Peter Parr said Bolton's recent form had helped him secure a new deal.

"He's shown in recent weeks that when he's injury-free and on top of his game, he's a valuable member of our NRL squad," Parr said.

"He's a strong runner, a good defender and we believe he has the potential to be one of our better forwards in the future."
