LONDON, Sept 21 PA - Hull owner Adam Pearson is considering a restructuring of the playing side of his club which is likely to see the removal of head coach Peter Gentle, Press Association Sport understands.

The Black and Whites were dumped out of the Super League play-offs on Thursday night courtesy of a 76-18 mauling by Huddersfield which raised immediate questions about the Australian's future.

He said he was "100 per cent" sure he would remain with the KC Stadium club, but it is understood the ambitious Pearson does not entirely share Gentle's belief that he remains the right man for the job.

Gentle's assistant and former Hull forward Lee Radford is the man Pearson has earmarked to fill any vacancy, with the former Hull City chief having seen Huddersfield, Leeds and Wigan achieve success with British coaches.

Pearson is keen to give his club a local identity and the 34-year-old Hull-born Radford would offer that.

Should Gentle leave Hull, it will come two years into a contracted four-year stay and follow on from the departure of his director of rugby, Shaun McRae - a role set to be filled by another former player, Motu Tony.

Gentle arrived in England from NRL club Wests Tigers in 2011, where he had served a decorated apprenticeship under Australia coach Tim Sheens, and extended his three-year deal by 12 months last September.

The 47-year-old guided Hull to the Challenge Cup Final this season but their defeat to Wigan brought about one of the worst big-game performances in recent memory.

He apologised for that and did so again on Thursday, with Pearson so angry at what he saw that he offered those fans who made the journey to West Yorkshire a refund.

"The obvious failings of such a performance have highlighted why we will now undertake a significant review of all areas and matters involving the first-team squad," he said.

Hull were unavailable for comment on Saturday morning.
