Injury Update After Round One 2011

The Rabbitohs suffered three significant injury blows during last night’s opening match against the Sydney Roosters.

Prop forward Scott Geddes ruptured his Achilles tendon which will required surgery this week, meaning he will miss the rest of the 2011 season.

Lock Ben Lowe has re-broken his foot which requires surgery to have a pin inserted. Ben is looking at two to three months on the sidelines.

Second-rower Sam Burgess injured his left shoulder. He had scans on his shoulder last night and will be assessed by a specialist this week.

Despite these injury setbacks, the Rabbitohs will be doing everything they can to bounce back in round two when they take on the Bulldogs at home at ANZ Stadium on Sunday 20 March at 2pm.

There was a football manager in the UK who urinated in all four corners of the pitch after a clairvoyant said it would break the spell on the team. Maybe give that a shot at ANZ on Sunday?

Poor Geddes, that guy is such a great player and such a passionate guy! He deserves to be playing his heart out every single game. I hope he gets some well deserved rest and returns sooner rather than later! We love u champ!

MEMBERS FIRST: Sam Burgess Injury Update
14 Mar 2011

Rabbitohs second rower Sam Burgess has received some good news after being reviewed by his shoulder specialist today.

Burgess’ surgeon reports that there has been some damage done to Sam’s shoulder however is not as bad as first thought.

The shoulder presented well today with it being quite functional.

The surgeon suggests a rehabilitation process over the next few weeks with the injury to be reassessed at that point.

The Club is optimistic that Sam will return to the field of play within the next month.

Sam must of done the old Cortisone test. Injection, mobility test- if you can move it you don't need surgery straight away. I won't expect a lot from Sammy if he can't lift weights this year. I'd rather he stayed out two months and came back at his best then a quick recovery.

says he will be back in 2 to 4 weeks at the most.

Much better news as a lot of people feared season.
