Matty Hayden has been dropped from the One day and 20/20 side by selectors who say it will give him more time to gather himself for the next bout of Test matches. Now if i'm not mistaken there will be only one Shield match for Hayden to participate in between now and the next Test. Seems pretty stupid to me. I realise he is in a form slump but as a person who wants to see Australia win tests, I would be giving him more of a go. If he is still averaging 50 as an opening batsmen when he is 45 then good on him.
I see in today's Daily Telegraph they have done up a scungy report card on players performances this summer with Mitchell Johnson the only player to get an A rating. im sorry but I thought Katich and Haddin have batted well and Michael Clarke hsa averaged 75 for christs sake. The Telegraph make Australian cricket sound like its in dire straits and I think its pathetic, especially considering Australia is still ranked number one in the world.
Clarke was one of australias best with Johnson and Haddin helping him. Katich was solid througout. This upcoming tour of South Africa will be a beauty. Clark has to be back in the side and drop Bollinger unfortunately. Hughes will come in for Haydos and Marcus North would have to come in as the all-rounder.
Nudge, I wouldn't be too quick too out bollinger gee he showed some talent and was very unlucky... disallowed LB's & dropped catch...
I think it is tall poppy syndrome a bit. Yes, there are players whose powers seem to slipping, but of 5 tests this summer Australia went 3-2. Not as well as usual, but for any other side that would be a good enough result really. I remember the last time Aussie cricket was getting sledged was when they lost the Ashes - they only lost 2 test matches that entire year (McGrath was injured for both) and only lost the Ashes 2-1. They then responded to England's next challenge by beating them 5-0 in about 17 days.
I won't worry too much about the Aussie cricket crisis until RSA and India have been number 1 for 5-10 years. Like XXVICELIFEXX said, they aren't number 1 yet even, and might not get there!
On Hayden, I think the selectors are bluffing from 1st position, hoping Hayden does their work and folds his hand. They both know he has to play for Australia in the one dayers to find form, not 1 Qld game.
I was readining an article in The Age The selectors have picked the twenty20 side and ODI based on preparing players aimed at the World twenty20 and the ODI world cup in 2010. Because of Hayden's age he is not part of the plan.
As for those ratings Clarke should have been an A+ as for Haddin did bat well but I wouldn't give him an A for his keeping....
