Cowboy signings

Just to confuse matters, the Ben Jeffery I talked about in that post (not to be confused with Ben Jeffries who has been linked to the Cowboys) has also been at the Dragons and will make his first grade debut for the Tigers this weekend.
Cribbage

I've seen Jeffery play three of four times in Premier League and he has a lot of potential. He likes to chance his arm at fullback and try things but he's also very safe under the high ball. What may count against him, much like Shannon McDonnell, is his size... but he definitely looks a good prospect. He can also fill in at five-eighth and has done so this season, so that might be why he's on the bench this week.

I'm not exactly sure on his age but he was named as a shadow player for the NSW under 19s side this year so he's probably about 18.

And just to make sure I'm not confusing anyone reading this thread, I'm not talking about the Wakefield half that has been linked to the Cowboys, but the Tigers outside back making his debut this week...

Prince, I saw him play for the NSW under 17's in 2004 and I'm pretty sure he is eighteen. Was he taking the kicks in the games you saw?
Cribbage

No I don't think I've seen him kick - I'm pretty sure Ben Reynolds has done all the kicking in the games I've seen.

goody, we ping off Jockey, and most likely Firman, so we can Saddle Jt with Grandpa Simpson, ping off Hannay, who has done a good enough job for what 10 years now, so we can buy an injury prone Brisbane reject.
Since when did we become the next Manly/Roosters. If you dont win us a medal then your not wanted.
Any ideas where I can hand in my fanboy card, i'm starting to think i want out.
If anyone wants to know why a kid born and bred in Campbelltown (no I'm not bragging) would support a team in far North Queensland, considering 1) I had never been there, and 2) they were wooden spooners, I'll tell you, they were a family, they looked out for each other, they had soul, something missing from the Sydney clubs, but now....

I still think this kid has great talent, I hope he can get a contract and get his career back on track. I hope he doesn't take the option of going over to England.

Yeah we should sack deadwood like JT and LOD, sod off Bluey he's no good, Bowman was born down here he should go, Justin Smith, maybe us fans who were born down here, as well as sponsers whose head quarters are based in NSW should stop pouring money in.
I know, lets keep it true, and remove the team from the NRL as its NSW based, and just enter the QLD cup. Geneius

Luke's a wanted man
By KATE JACKA
http://townsvillebulletin.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,3600,5318520,00.gif Luke O'Donnell, pictured in action for Australia against NZ last Saturday night, comes off contract with the Cowboys at the end of the 2007 season

THE North Queensland Cowboys will do everything in their power to retain the services of Australian second-rower Luke O'Donnell beyond 2007, according to chief executive Peter Parr.
O'Donnell, who was part of Australia's successful Tri-Nations campaign recently, comes off contract at the end of next season. Parr, who is in Sydney for the NRL's CEOs conference, said the Cowboys would be initiating discussions with O'Donnell and his manager 'sooner rather than later'.
"He's always been a priority and the last few weeks have just confirmed why he is a priority," Parr said.
"Now that he's finished his Tri-Nations commitments it's the right time to get the ball rolling.
"We'll be speaking with (his manager) Wayne Beavis within the next few days to try to secure him long term.
"All I know is we'll be doing everything we possibly can to entice him to stay at this club."
O'Donnell would likely attract plenty of interest if he tested the open market.
While the 26-year-old grew up in Sydney, Parr said O'Donnell hadn't indicated a preference to return 'home'.
"It was a challenge to get him here in the first place, to get him out of Sydney to come and live in North Queensland," he said.
"But he's never indicated to me he wants to return to Sydney.
"He's very happy living in this community and being part of the North Queensland region so I hope that's not an issue."
O'Donnell made his debut for North Queensland in 2004 when his career wasn't looking so rosy.
The former Wests Tiger had been painted as a rugby league bad boy after he was suspended for 11 weeks for a tackle which broke the jaw of Canberra Raider Michael Monaghan.
On his return, the Ulladulla junior was hampered by a knee injury.
But the 2004 Cowboy of the Year has since made his debut for New South Wales and Australia, cementing his place in both teams last year.
Parr said O'Donnell's success had exceeded even his high hopes.
"When we first signed Luke, a few people saw it as a gamble but we never saw it as that at all," he said.
"We chased him fairly aggressively and we always knew that if he could get some extended time on the field that he could do something special.
"But he's probably gone a little bit beyond what even we expected in a relatively short period of time."
Parr said while extending O'Donnell's contract was the first thing on his mind, he saw the forward as a future leader at the club.
"There's no doubt we are going through a bit of a transition at the club with (2006 captain) Travis (Norton) and (Matt Sing) moving on and (Paul Rauhihi and Kevin Campion) just before them," he said.
"I think now is the opportune time for people like Luke and Johnathan (Thurston), Carl (Webb), Aaron Payne, Ty Williams – people like that to step up to the plate in a leadership role."
