Playing both codes of rugby

What's people's opinion of when players should choose which code to concentrate on,looking at the qld rugby union site and half the qld team u16 are rep players from league,I personally don't care but wouldn't it create greater depth if players chose one code and let fringe players get the development that is being taken up by the same players in each code

I wouldnt say half of the team are rep players from league, and i would say most of them go to private schools so obviously play rugby for school. If it were my boy i would say go for both if they are good enough. Why only open one door if you can open both?

Eleven who played in the CC comp this year made either QLD Red or White.

B.Croft Toowoomba CC
C.Pritchard Easts CC Q16RL
C.Setu Ipswich CC
I.Perese Norths CC Q16RL
R.Glynn Norths CC
S.Vui Ipswich CC
T.Tualima Souths Logan CC

QLD White
A.Stowers Easts CC Q16RL
C.Auld Ipswich CC
J.Carroll Easts CC Q16RL
M.Raeli Ipswich CC

Others who were listed on the trial sheet included:

K.Ponga Easts CC
J.Mahara SEQ Chairmans
J.Murray Souths Logan CC
B.Dix Q16 Murri
T.Packer SW Mustangs
J.Miers Norths CC Q16RL

At the end of the day, they can play both, and become better players. Decide next year or the next which sport they want to play.

Also listed for trials
T. Biddle Townsville Stingers CC
J. Murray Souths Logan CC
J. Sua Souths Logan CC Q16RL
T. Moli played Norths

I was surprise to find out that a lot of the GPS schools have several contracted players quietly playing in their rugby program. It appears that BBC have a connection to the Storms as they have a few in there. Nudgee appear to be working in with the Broncos with the amount of boys in their program. Churchie are poaching from all over the place chasing a title and they have some good league boys in their program. I guess as long as these boys keep their eyes on education as well then there's no harm on doing both. League is still the better of the two!!

Eagle10, I guess one will have to start thinking about one code whilst in grade 10 or 11 as trying to do reps for both codes will wear one out (body management). However at the end of school years one will have to decide on either the U20s program or Union club footy. I don't know how some of these boys are going to balance both codes but I do think they will have to make some sacrifices. Will it create depth through fringe players I'm not sure. It will create a better league player for those balancing both in the sense of skills, SBW and Izzy as an example.

I'm with you on the wear and tear on the players between trainings and games its too much

Thanks @Crash91 for updating that list.
