CC . Could easy be a NQ grand final. Pride boys really played well as a team, and Stingers,in theory should be better. shapes as a great grand final. Hope it's played at bashup park.

Gee there is a pretty compelling case to move the Grand Final to Townsville.
Lets see how the QRL deal with this one.

I watched the Pride v Souths game. The Pride were excellent. Their fronties toiled all day, one of the back rowers was sensational. Carroll is a freak & the bench hooker I think Canlon was excellent. For Souths I thought Sato did some really good things, he needed more ball. Ronaldo tried hard in defence. A couple of the Souths players were targeted in defence & missed a fair bit. But the Pride were excellent, not of the other South East teams would have done any better.

Both very physical games. Nick Brown should come into calculations for QLD U18 with that performance.

Well done to all teams. Good luck to the Stingers and Pride in the National Finals.

Townsville’s 1300SMILES Stadium has today been confirmed as the venue for the Under 16 and Under 18 National Finals between the Queensland and New South Wales champions on Saturday, May 17.

The matches were originally pencilled in to be played at Bishop Park in Brisbane, but following the results from last weekend’s state finals which saw two northern teams win their respective state finals, the Queensland Rugby League has settled on Townsville.

“With the Northern Pride and Townsville Stingers qualifying for these two prestigious matches, it makes sense to play them in North Queensland,” QRL Managing Director Robert Moore said today.

“It’s a great fit for the game and a perfect opportunity to profile top level rugby league in the north.”

The National Finals will be played before the National Rugby League game between the North Queensland Cowboys and Sydney Roosters.

Moore praised the Cowboys for their proactive approach.

“The Cowboys recognised early on that there was a wonderful opportunity to bring the games to Townsville to showcase some of the country’s best young talent in front of their passionate northern fans,” Moore said.

“We can’t thank them enough for getting on the front foot and making their facilities available. It’s also important that we recognise the early assistance of the Norths Devils, who were preparing to accommodate these matches as well.”

Cowboys general manager of football Peter Parr said his club was thrilled with the way “everyone worked together”.

“It’s a great result for the region to have two North Queensland teams on the big stage before an NRL game,” Parr said.
“Our club is proud to be able to play a part in bringing it together.”

The staging of the National Finals in Townsville follows on from last weekend’s successful event in Cairns which saw the Cyril Connell Cup and Mal Meninga Cup state finals played before the Rivalry Round match between the Northern Pride and Mackay Cutters.

Queensland Under 16 champions the Northern Pride will play the winner of the Harold Matthews Cup final between the Newcastle Knights and Penrith Panthers.

Townsville Stingers will meet the winner of the SG Ball Cup match between the Sydney Roosters and Penrith Panthers. Both of the NSW matches will be played this Saturday at Leichhardt Oval.

Saturday, May 17 – Townsville
1.30pm – Gates Open
1.45pm – National Under 16 Final
3.20pm – National Under 18 Final
5.15pm – NYC game
7.30pm – NRL game

Saw the U/18 National Final yesterday.
TSVL Stingers ….WOW !!!!
The game was virtually over at the 20min mark.
Their edge second rowers, their half back (star), their winger, who got man of match, lightning quick.
Their goal kicking cost them a few extra points, but with Roosters scoring on the hooter it was a pretty emphatic victory.

Highlights of the Stingers forwards were very impressive. Bambling should be locked up by the Cowboys forever.

Agree 100% re.Bambling. We will see him in the NYC for rest of season. Don't know whatever happened between him and Broncos (where he was once a 'scholarship' holder).
ALX21

Broncos may have rated J.Nikorima higher or the Cowboys offered more. Plus the chance to learn from Thurston is a win-win. Bambling has a few qualities similiar to DCE.
