2013 Starting to Build

January 8th, 2013
By Daniel Andruczyk

More developments in 2013 as the big year in Rugby League kicks off. The USARL 9s is firming up as we anticipate that information from the USARL on this years events will come forward soon. I hear that there are a few details that need to be finalised. In the UK there has been some worry that the Salford City reds will soon close their doors, but seems that there may be a saviour on the horizon.

Return of the Samurai

January 13th, 2013
By Daniel Andruczyk

The 2013 installment of the Cabramatta International 9s promises to be the biggest and best yet. Once again featuring local teams from around the NSWRL competitions there are many international teams taking part such as from PNG. However the big news is that the traditional crowd favourites, The Japanese Samurais, are returning and Rugby League International Scores was able to catch up with their coach for the tournament, Mark Sargent, and discuss their prospects and get bit more insight into the sport in Japan.

Festival of World Cups

July 13th, 2013
By Daniel Andruczyk

2013 is shaping up to be a huge year for Rugby League internationally. Not only do we have the first grade world cup for the men, but there are five other world cups being played as well: Women’s, Wheelchair, Students, Armed Forces and Police Forces. Though there is a website (see here) it seems that they get a small showing on the various media outlets and as always we down play them. So here is a summary so far of the five other Rugby League World Cups being played in 2013!

Sweden claim historic win in the Nordic Cup

July 25th, 2013
From Scott Edwards, Swedish Rugby League

The Nordic cup opener for 2013 saw competition underdogs upset the current champions. Sweden, who are usually on the receiving end of early points were turning the tables this time. While keeping possession for what felt like 20 minutes they racked up a comfortable 20 nil score line. Tim Bolton crossed the line after five minutes which cemented some confidence in the team. The experienced captain for the day, Fabian Wikander, and man of the match, converted the 4 to 6 and went on to score two tries of his own and to kick a further 6/7.

This time, however, the Eagles were with a full compliment and looking to secure their position in the top 4.
