A FREAK !! Enjoy the RIDE >>>> the best we will see. DO NOT DOUBT IT .UltimateFormGuru
the hussler seems lenghts better, the only 2 i will follow from behind him is zarita who seems to have measure up this spring unlike so many mares before with booms on them from their 3yo year & light fantastic , to bad to be true give him any go . he was the boom horse along with the hussler before his defeat
Ta, I have already backed the Hussler to win the Caulfied, because he has a comfortable in comparison, he will be in a great position throughout the race, and yes he is knocking over all the Group races. I am very dubious of the horses behind him. His obvious threat the other day was Light Fantastic who when we look back at form was only beating a horse like Largo Lad by a length or two after having been ridden beautifully. Is it good form??? But horses can only beat what they are put up against. To my way of thought I'm still waiting for a vintage year, like "96 Saintly beating horses like Filante(broke the Epsom record), Octagonal, Juggler atc. The Hussler has a very minimal opposition at this stage of his Preparation
I Will agree with that Chook i think you`ll get your race with the likes of Maldivian, Pompeii Ruler & the `real` Light Fantastic and when the tracks dry a little more i think the hussler will provide you with a track record also, if Ross McDonald and his pedigree are correct that record may be the first Tuesday in November. Zarita too will have her races but probably against her own sex.
I remember the year that Northerly won the Cox Plate. Everyone wanted him to run in the cup. Not because he was a 2 miler, but because he was the class horse of his year. Can't quite remember who won the cup that year ..sure someone can remind me of the placings :).
The point I make is that he might not have to be a true stayer to beat this lot. I think that they are a strong bunch personally (winners of Melb. cup, Caulf. cup, Oaks, derbies, Guinees), but the fact is they all have to catch him. Each run that passes strengthens his case for being a chance. A couple of old buggers I know (older than me!) who have always said that the Cox Plate is the best staying test. Looking at Makybe Diva, Saintly, Might And Power, they might be on to something.
A lot of people llike Hussler for the Cox because he can't stay, and 2000m is the limit. Maybe if he wins that it proves that he can.
The question over times is only mildly relevent during a carnival, as the horses are racing against the same competition time and again.
I would love to see a year like 1996 again Chook, but I think it is up to the others to make it so. Being on the fairytale!!!
Northerly won Cox Plt 2001 & 2002. 2001 Cup ETHEREAL/Give The Slip/Persian Punch & 2002 MEDIA PUZZLE/Mr Prudent/Beekeeper.
I Dont know alot about his pedigree but his mum is by Hellissio who won an arc and grand dam also was a winning stayer. His father has staying blood on one side and spped on the other if he can`t stay the others won`t stay worse.
If Maldivian avoids the C.Cup then nothing will beat the Hussler bar an international horse who i havent seen yet.
When do the internationals have to arrive by?
I cant see Mal not running in the caufield cup, he was favourite last year till the barrier incident and mal is in better form this year, gonna be hard to hold out but my trifecta for the Caulfield Mal/Hussler/Pompeii Ruler in that order.
I think Maldivian is a cert to start in the Caulfield/Melbourne Cups.
Not sure they are still negotiating Quarantine.
The only query i could have is does he handle the Valley?
He does handle the valley. He won on a friday night this time last year and this autumn he ran 2nd behind Let Go Thommo in the Carlyon. No worries about the track.
I think he handles anything!
I promised to eat humble pie if I was wrong about the Hussler but I wasn't. I didn't think he would stay and he didn't. I wish they had of let him have the extra weeks rest and hit the Cox plate with the possibility of on 10 runners he could have run wherever he liked and had a good chance now we'll never know.
DAINTREE DUKE would romp the hussler over any given distance!!
In fairness GD I think Rosco has been around al ong time and we all respect him, however Im convinced he tried doing the freak things with this horse and they just arent machines. Hindsight is a great thing however that horse should have been set purely for the CoxPlate, like they used to do.
Chunky I couldn't agree more mate!! His preperation was WAY to harsh on the animal!! But I respect rosco, and it was funny when he said he is still in bed this morning ( The hussler) after he bit me on the hand lastnight
And it funny you are not disagreeing about DAINTREE DUKE Chunky! I think this is the best horse we have seen for quite some time, I am very very excited to see his progress!!
Agreed with daintree duke............this guys a freak and we will see something special of him in the next few weeks...........P.S. His last start win was something special if you ask me......(Held up......held up......spaced them in 100m)
one whip around the rump and his burst is devastating, like I said in another thread, its very similar to that of Sunburn Land and even the Hussler, but his last start was just to be honest unbelievable!!!!!
That is a big call GD the duke has won $30K from 5 wins on country tracks. The Hussler set the record for Group 1's in a calendar year. If you are right then you should be approaching the dukes owners for a share now seems the price will be on the up after its next 8 group 1's.
Ive followed the Duke since his maiden.. Yes hes impressive GD.. But gee we cant say he would romp The Hussler over any given distance.. And I know you won with Sunburnt Lad and hes a very good horse but surely the hip pocket isnt letting you throw his name into comparisons with the Hussler??????
I will never knock the hussler.......Hes won me too much.....but I have a really big opinion of this daintree duke......his last 2 starts have been awesome.....I know he hasnt beat much and when the hussler won his races early on he won by many lengths I just reckon if this guy can get himself into a decent race over the mile he could be anything........I wish he hadnt had these injuries cause I have liked him for a while.........He now has his rating up and I promise that he will win at good odds in a race probably on derby day..........pencil it in
If I was a book maker fielding at flemington today I would be letting all you guys on the DUKE in the last. Yes he looks promising but this is his biggest test to date. $2.50 doesnt seem like value to me.
The Duke has glue on shoes today. What's that about? Don't want to take evens to find out.
