Sirkingston - v - Lilydale_Steve
It is a race in 2 at the moment..... I am looking to see who will stay on!
You guys are flying at the moment, hats off to you, and keep em flowing!
G`day DJ i did put up a proviso with a large number of tips that if actually punting on them only bet the ones returning $5 or more at no stage did i expect anyone to back all of `em. Nothin worse than doin $100 on a horse paying $1.50 better to leave it alone and look to another race, i also said in a thread yesterday to use selections wisely, and to punt with commonsense. I agree very few banks could withstand betting 60-70 selections in a day.
My best bet is in race 6 as Muswellbrook i suggest puchasers quinella the selection with Dandenong.
So much for the best bet i guess it couldn`t carry the weight of money i just lost on it. Oh well back to the drawing board. Yet another one ridden too far back and given no chance (Magic Orders).
I definetly agree with you DJ.. this site is about giving good advice and value for money...can you imagine how this site would look if we all put in 100 tips...as a punter I personally do
not choose my tips for the day if I am going to have a bet ...an hour before the races ..one I call my runner(win Only} and three eachway ...four selections it works well . goodluck.
Everyone to their own, what about the radio tipsters who give 4 tips per race!!!
WELL SAID MR BIG,
Yes but look at the paper ...on a saturday each tipper in each state gives out 4 selections if you cross of where they all tipped the same horses you come up with only about 4 tips overalll...also each state has it own selectors here in s.a. we have 4...on this site I try to stick to a maxi of 15 at the most if I am covering each state on a Sat...my own selections for betting I do not know until an hour before the races and as I said I stick to the rule of 4 selections ...personally I pick a runner around 4-5 price for a win only.. my other selections are eachway...when i was in my 20s I would go to the course and back one winner ,and walk off to collect another day ...but those where the days when we did have real certs ( not fine cotton thankyou) also there was 20 or more bookies to get a fair price.. each to their own your right..I hope your systems work...best of luck.
Hi there philone,in my 38 years punting on horses,i have learnt to not back short price horses.I only back horses paying $4.00 or more and each way(1 win x 4 place). The reason i select one horse per race is because i do the ratings on every race and only back the ones paying $4.00 plus, one horse per race.I might only have 10 to 15 bets on a saturday(40 races),some days i might have 3 to8 bets, and your right, once i get in front,i walk too.
Cheers and good punting,
Congradulations on scrambling to the top. I dropped to 36th yesterday but a good day today brings me back to 18th. Hope to be back up there with you tomorrow. Well done, Cheers.
NATSKI running down EMPIRE ROSE in 88:
Bloody great photo that was with Natski bunched up ready to take the next big stride encompassed by the huge mare at full stretch. Empire Rose 1st, Natski 2nd & Empire Rose's rump 3rd!
Gee she was a big girl - maybe DEANJOHN could provide us with AC/DC's "Whole lot of Rosie"!
Liked the following year better when Rosie won. Bruce McEvaney`s call `Natski won`t make and the big mare wins` is right up there with bill Bill Collin`s, `Bonecrusher races into Equine Imortality,` call.
Thought I'd had a mind lapse for a second there. However, my memory has on this occassion served me correctly. Empire Rose ran 2nd in 87 (got back from a 2 year o/s working holiday in Oct 87) then won it in 88. Odds tumbled from 10/1 into 4/1 after she won the McKinnon . Super impose just didn't run out the 3200 beaten by Tawriffic the following year.
They both deserved to win they were consistent performers. I watch the replay of those two cups often.
Was the best Melb cup trial in living history that year Cracka after beating (I think) Vo Rouge, Our Poetic Prince, Sky Chase, in that Mc Kinnon Stakes would have been robbery if Natski beat her. Got bloody close though . Isnt hindsight a wonderfull thing
Still get a tingle up the spine watching Super Impose! As if back to back Epsoms and Doncasters weren't enough along with the Cox Plate (without the interference BLU would've won - going home better than SI).
Hindsight wasn't the problem Chunky it was the drop in odds!!!!!!!!!!! Back then didn't have inet bookies etc and KNEW if she won McKinnon, she'd be close to favoritism - used to be huge form lead up to Melb Cup. Not to mention the 2nd previous year.
Yep I had that race on vid until recently, I think it was one of the most inspirational mc kinnon wins ever. Those horses at WFA including some of Hayes imports what a great line up, some of the best going round T.K Allan didnt know what hit himthat day. Since then Rogan Josh has won a Mckinnon and followed up with the goods
Cracka Don`t remind me about that Cox Plate! While i loved the old fella winning i have mixed feelings about the race. Better Loosen Up is my all time fav. horse and if Let`s Elope had not interfered with him he would have won for certain. The margin was a nose to uphold the protest BLU would have to lost more. The rael reason for my grief is i had $25 on a quinella for the two old stagers Better Loosen Up (33/1) & Super Impose (25/1). If the protest result is correct, without interference they finish one two! Uhhhhh!
Sorry to open old wounds there Steve. Super Impose is my all time fav alongside Makybe Diva (for totally different reasons - imagine that breeding!). Have always said that the result woulda been different had Let's Elope not rolled in -even the trainer of the winner agrees! Shame for BLU as he never won a group race after coming back from severe injury and deserved to imo. Spare a thought for the bloke I worked with at the time who took the trifecta of SI/LE/BLU (boxed of course).
I know just how he felt i had SI-BLU/SI-BLU/FIELD. I am glad that Super manged to get a major in Victoria as he had so much bad luck in Victoria.
Oh the memories keep flooding back! Wasn't that long before that he'd been slagged by racing media for being suspect on rain affected tracks when he started down in Melbourne on a dead one and paid $8.80 the win - had never been unplaced on a dead track according to the form guide. Thus the 20/1 Cox Plate Day and Mannerism's ? 7/2 favoritism. Alright for a bleeder the Super!
SI 20/1, LE 40/1, BLU 20/1 who'd have thought that was possible. In the same race not their maiden outings.
According to valley of the kings (the Cox Plate histoy) Super Impose 16/1, Kinjite 50/1, Slight Chance 20/1, Better Loosen Up 50/1, Let`s Elope 6/1. Hows THAT FOR A TOP FIVE. Amongst the also rans was Mannerism 16/1, Burst 50/1, Price Salieri 50/1, and can you believe Sydeston was 200/1.
In fact only three horses were single figures: Naturalism evens favorite (who fell with Palace Reign 50/1 & Sydeston), then equal second favourites Let`s Elope & Coronation Day 6/1. Was a pretty good year really. That`s my trivia for the night good luck tomorrow i hope to make up some lost ground then see ya at the top. (I hope).
Thanks for the memory jolt by mentioning Naturalism - it's the isms that bugger me up. Reckon Lee and rest of FBI crapped their pants at the 600m with that nasty fall. What a year 1992!
Super Better Best is on TVN now i am watching it as i type.
like cruising down memory name with a few of these horses mentioned.
great little read fellows
Always like a yarn about past champs.
