J.J. Liston Stakes
yeah lads totally agree with the synopsis of WHOBEGOT.. as stated this is merely a stepping stone but geez he is well weighted in comparison to his first up effort last prep... although i guess his GF last prep was the 1600m DONNY not the COX.. he could pull himself into this race and no-one would blink an eyelash... this could be the start of the road to the shortest price COX fave in years... im actually half hoping he doesnt show much (better odds for cox) but on the other hand i hope he silences a few critics... ahhh the conundrum!! DEAD 5 at moment and very windy... good drying conditions and rail out 6m... he will be coming home hard... if you take out the stayers or horses with other agendas you are left with MR BARITONE, STICKPIN, ORANGE COUNTY, JUNGLE RULER, BENELLI, HEART OF DREAMS and TT. The market seems to be a bit upside down... last years 3yr olds are terribly weighted when you take a good look at it... you would have to think HOD is a big risk at the weights... TT as well yet they head the market?? Admittedly they could be a super crop of 3yr olds coming through but you would say on the weights and at the distance ORANGE COUNTY MR BARITONE and BENELLI are very lightly weighted in comparison. Im just wondering if maybe at this stage of everyones respective preps that the BLETCHINGLY might be the best formline into this? 9-1, 31-1 and 35-1?
Mick Price said on radio this morning that HEART OF DREAMS was no where near wound up and that of his two GALLICA was actually a lot more forward than him.
The first two would be from the ones which are not returning after spell and the third will be one from who are returning from spell...Jungle Ruler, Mr Baritone and Benelli are strong Contenders for me..considering 60% of the field are resuming after spell..imo 1400m after spell is not very inviting
Something like in the past 20 yrs mate 9 winners have been 1st up with 4 winners being 2nd up.. 3 winners came from NZ.. the rest contested the Bletchingly before winning the Liston
I wouldn't put too much on what Kavanagh says, I reckon he's full of you know what and is one of those trainers that will BS to get the price better
Well it is working. Whobe is out to $6. Great e/w rock now.
I'm on TYPHOON TRACY. Its last run in Sydney when he was headed halfway down the straight was amazing! Come on baby!!!
Orange County for me has to be the best valued runner with a top jock on board...HAVE TO PUT IN PREDATORY PRICER WHO WILL BE ROCKETING HOME.. along with Benelli who is very fit and will run a great race.
BENELLI is out Vrc have banned it from racing until further notice and war dancer/ were the two horses caught with EPO and are waiting for the results frpm overseas. I find it hard to believe PP will beat TT on previous times will be at least 5l away
imo typhoon tracy will win easily...she will have the likes of sand sweeper and jungle ruler who will be up the front with her under pressure on straightning, anybody's guess who will finish in the placings behind her...whobe will flash home regardless of where he's at at this stage of his prep it'l just depend on how far back ollie has him whether he figures or not...stickpin my best roughie
Zarita will prove hard to beat, considering she's the only real W/F/A horse in the race & their is no Hussler here. Typhoon Tracy has beat some nice mare handicappers but really $2.60 is Ridiculous. Heart of Dreams is the only one of the younger brigade I would consider backing... GOOD LUCK
what an interesting race, i also thought stickpin was a good wfa run last time ill have something on him and dutch it with a few other value runners 2,3,7,11,12
I couldn't back ZARITA with stolen money.
TYPHOON TRACY ALL THE WAY!
TYPHOON TRACY ALL THE WAY!
typhoon tracy beat culminate in the coolmore, would you back her in this?...after hearing most trainers speak of their fresh horses none seem confident about winning the liston as most aren't wound up yet, which is good if you consider them a cups or plate horse...of the fresh ones zarita and PP will be the most wound up i suspect as they may have to prove themselves to thier trainers and owners early in the campaign...orange county and mr baritone look good each way bets in this...it takes a very fit horse to win first up over 1400 and often proves a gutbuster
agree wholeheartedly punta !!! Can I ask how Zarita is the only WFA horse in the race ?? Is it because she has ran in some WFA races ?? She certainly never won at WFA and in fact has not won since racing in 3yo fillies races
Heard Hyland on 927 this morning, he said that ZARITA was more wound up than last spring, is fit enough to win if good enough. Mayfield-Smith said that ORANGE COUNTY is doing well but has struggled to win at WFA before and STICKPIN is maybe 2L behind him.
she will show up MONEY... if you like her for the CC you had better snap up the 67s now.. i think they will be the best odds you will get.
At the weights, I just can't warm to TT. She's got to prove herself against open class before I'll get on her back. If WBGY is wound out he'll be tough to beat. Just a matter if MK wants him to win first up or waiting for something else in the spring. I am very keen to see how Heart of Dreams comes up this spring - I think this fellow could be something special. And I can never catch Orange County. He could be the one but will run without my money. It wouldn't surprise me if this race ends up with a blow out winner.
I have put my money on Heart Of Dreams but there are so many chances
Gee, good race I thought. Pricer is a horse who has been talked about a lot on these forums. Several good runs to look at though, PP obviously and Whobegotyou's was a beauty considering Kav said he was not a proposition. Also a big run from Red Ruler I thought and nothing wrong with what Zarita did to get home for sixth from last at the turn, may be able to produce this Spring. Have to admit though that I really liked Gallica's run, didn't think she was ever going to win this but she battled on nicely for fifth and she'll be a lot fitter now and I think will be very hard to beat with a bit more distance in front of her.
Kav also said that about Raffaello, & paul musrrau said similar about Pricer, so don't listen to trainers.
I think I may have underestimated the Pricer but geez..........Whobegotyou will be giving em galloping lessons from here on in you would think. If he was in need of the run as his trainer stated that was a slashing run. Typhoon Tracy good but no real excuses. She maybe better leading but wouldn't drop off her just yet......slapped exactas with Whobe and TT so not a good race punting wise but great to see the good horses back
Talking a bit from Pocket but Orange County would have placed at least if it got a clear run, rather than buffeted & blocked for most of the straight.
Agreed Jonny. Very nearly backed OC here but ended up just going Zarita the place and was happy to watch on and saw a good race. He was unlucky as he hit a lot of traffic but still not sure he would have got PP and Whobe to be honest.
Ill almost go as far to say that OC should have been fighting it out with the top 2. I was on PP but i rewatched the race and OC got no galloping room until the final 100 and was really making some good ground late. i reckon we might 15's about him in his next assignment over a mile and I will unload.
Well spotted fella's, I'll go as far as OC was in for a fighting win, the interference resembled some copped by viewed in the lead up to last years Melb Cup and we know what happened there, so if the outcome of this is that we get greater odds in the next run or 2 then I'm on also
