Discuss the Cox Plate here. Who you think will win and why, or who you think won't and why. We will post the final field for you once it becomes available.

Well I will stick to Alamosa the 2000plus will suit him ,gone off Samantha Miss mainly because she looks a 1600m horse ,some of these will be found wanting at the end, breeding suggest a strong 2000m horse wins this type of race and Alomosa looks the ideal type and froggy said in todays paper he will be riding aggressively ,his riding tactics are not going to change ,he says "" I ride for the the little punter " ..so Alomosa will be given every chance.
Not many WFA horses in this really, I just keep coming back to the 1 horse. Just hope every1 backs Samantha Miss so the price gets better.
Tipstar we know you are referring to sirmione :)
I have also done a speed map today.......looked at all the odds......Have settled on two chances and cannot split them.......
Chilli...Theseo led them up in the George Main @ WFA prior to the Epsom...did a pretty good job of it too before Mentality finally overhauled him in the straight. Not sure that Maldivian is definitely going to hold Theseo out if Nash wants the lead...seems pointless engaging in this kind of duel. Think Theseo can definitely place being ridden this way but not sure whether he has enough in the tank to hold them all at bay though. I keep coming back to Danny's horse for some reason despite given an impossible run last week. No WFA wins on the board but the Turnbull run keeps coming up in my mind when 2nd up off 28 days. Plenty of historical evidence of previous Plate winners that were 1st or 2nd in the Turnbull...Better Loosen Up, The Phantom Chance, Sunline, Northerly, Makybe Diva. But this year seems different in that if one intends to look left field then it requires some kind of extra allowance than in previous years. And Fields of Omagh in recent times had shown it is possible to come from last so that may not be a problem for a potential winner tomorrow. Not prepared to tip it outright as i have stayed out of this race for my selections tomorrow but he seems overs at 20/1....and 5% market probability seems a bit too shallow for a G1 winner that goes OK at the Valley in a year that appears significanly lighter in class than in recent times. If the pilot can get his act together then I think a surprise is not out of the question. Only wish I had greater conviction in the pilot as I think the horse can live up to his end of the bargain if the tempo is strong. Mmmmmm.
i wishd nikolic wasnt on zipping -
Just to remove any doubt, the horse I was referring to is not Zipping...and I see the 20/1 in some of the overnight markets is now gone...perhaps a few others think he's not out of it either.
yeah WHITE there has been some big bets for your bloke in the last 24 hours... good luck!
I cant see any real bias over the first 3 races here today... if anything it looks like 3 off the fence is where you want to be but its still early.... beautifully prepared track today... i wonder if the nobbies at RANDWICK are paying attention!!
GO YOU GOOD THING..... onya RODDY... well done crew we all gave it a massive winning hope and we can break out the bubbly now!!!!
your not wrong, used up my $100 free bet on BIG MAL! Got Mal and Zipping in my Stable too, you BEWTY!
thank god that's over the worst cox plate field ever and possibly the slowest race ever, well done to rodd for highway robbery.
Is OP Bossom on his way home yet, if not I'll buy him a ticket.. shocking ride, never gave it a chance.
BIG MAL TOO EASY
Backed him back in Jan to collect $4k. Must admit, I had almost given up. Kavanagh can make it 4 from 4 in the last!
2d 19hrs ago i was spot on:
1st reply to this topic up the top 1month 2 weeks ago, i liked 4 horses Hussler/Pompeii Ruler/Light Fantastic and Maldivian other 3 are out i like big mal has good record here short straight gets an easy lead up front i think it will be too far in front down the straight.
I backed Maldivian because I studied the form and it was obvious there wasnt going to be any pace on. For the melbourne cup, I wouldnt sack Master O Reilly. He just couldnt run on. M Rodd= first class! yew!
Well done Blacksafake but i remember you saying this 2 days ago on this topic and i quote: Maldivian in my opinion is not going well enough to beat these but is still a place chance. This leaves me with my first 4: Alamosa, Princess Coup, Gallant Tess and Zarita. I like Princess coup alot, simply because of her last 2 wins in NZ.
At the time, I didnt know that Kav put him over the jumps. Im a massive fan of trainers who try something unusual. And plus, if you did read the form more carefully he was the only leader.
BLACKY: putting MAL over the jumps is something they do to the ZABEELS mate... theory being it builds up their speed endurance and switches them on... worked for EFFICIENT as well... i think a couple of knockers here just didnt read the form right... it was up to the jock to win this race and MAL was always the best horse in this race (after the HUSSLER went out of course, he would have won this) but RODD just had to get it right mate... the thing i like about KAV is that he plans his horses to WIN... not to just run a good race... when MAL was up against the HUSSLER the only thing they could do to beat him was to open up early, get HUSSLER off the bit and chasing early and hope MAL could keep going to the line... which he couldnt at WFA... this COX plate there was no HUSSLER and the biggest danger was ZIPPING.. so RODD rated him to perfection this time and BIG MAL didnt take off early to try and beat them off the break... instead he hit the line in the straight not before the bend... no way can you knock the effort it was a perfect plan by KAV and perfect execution by RODD and a bloody good horse in MAL. Not many horses or jocks can lead them up, have half the field on their outside coming into the straight and hold their nerve long enough to rail and then put the foot on the gas... nerves of steel MR RODD.
What was with Theseo? thought it was going to try and run them intot he ground? what BS that was, would have been a completely different race if that have had happend, though personally don't mind, being on Mal and all.
yeah TEVEZ... it scared the hell out of me mate... big marks to RODD for holding his posse and not letting it cross... THESEO deadset wanted the lead mate and that was a crucial part of the race.. it wouldve forced MAL to go before the turn and give a few others the chance to get in it off his back... i cant say enough about RODDS ride it had to be and was PERFECT in every section!!
Rodd's my Fav hoop, he's a great big race rider, Backing up on Sea Battle in the next shows what a pro he is.
I thought if Theseo really wanted it it could have taken it, would have spent alot of petrol tickets to do it but still it was possible, my worry was always that that would happen and Mal would chase,
MV suited perfect too,
I know its been 2 days but I have been busy so I just would like to congratulate BIG MAL and I enjoyed seeing him boot away and win..........I also enjoyed the cash I had on him.....as well as the BIG MAL/ZIPPING quinella.
I thought the First 4 paid quite Well,
I roved big Mal with Zipping, Alamosa, Zarita and the MIss, Cost me $48 to get back $2000+ was rapt.
It wasnt quite Sunline like as I quoted a week or so ago, but never the less was great.
Will he break his Flemingon hoodoo or be spelled ?
