Discuss the Caulfield Cup here. Who you think will win and why, or who you think won't and why. We will post the final field for you once it becomes available.
hahaha PHILONE she is the one telling me to settle down... i dont think she understands the exact ramifications of it mate... bloody chop chop pulled all the way around... i was worried williams and hayes would bunt him to the lead and fire him up... bloody idiots!!
I would have liked to have seen Red Ruler get clear running. Unlucky I thought.
In the last take a tri throw in super fly you may make up for it as for chop chop send him to the paddock he has definetly got problems and they should have let him have his head he may have led all the way ,we will never know.
These two imports have run in 1 black type race each before today. Mad Rush (g2) & All The Good (g3). Aiden O`Briens 3 are here on the strengths of Derby`s, Cups & St Legers as are the others these 2 were the ones with something to prove along with Bauer (Geelong Cup mega chance).
Chilli Hayes said at the barrier draw they were doing that and again this morning in an interview on Tvn. I`ll give you a laugh. My favourite jockey wins the Caulfield Cup on a horse from my favourite stable at 50/1 and i don`t have a cracker on it. The first year i have not backed a Godolphin runner in the Cup since they started bringing them out here.
correct me if im wrong but he is still an entire mate.... i mean seriously breed him or race him guys!!!
Will ahve a crack at it PHILONE am pretty keen on my tip so could get the tri between us... just had a sneaky on STOOD UP in Brissy so im all good... geez i have great success backing the girls in Brisbane!!
thats pretty much the way of it mate hahah... i heard HAYES say that they would punch him forward and i was hoping for a sit just off them 5th or 6th two out but as soon as WILLIAMS bunted him he fired up and started pulling his way to the lead... just heard that CHOP CHOP pulled up sore and is out for the spring!! thems the breaks!
Thats great to see you get that one up goodluck with the tri .
Boundless laying in in the straight and cutting off Douro Valley cost me in the head to head. I thought Winks could have at least ridden him out to the line! He still would have got past the Hussler! He got the sooks up and pulled him up! Spewing! Youtube 2008 Caulfield Cup.
The first half of Cup was run faster than 2ND half of race no wonder chop Chop compounded.
You had the winner mine still running does not no the race is over.
What was V Duric thinking??? Anyone? how could you possible think that droping out from barrier 13 to a clear last then coming about 8 wide round the home turn could possibly win a Caulfield Cup. Ridiculous effort in my book! His ride lacked any initiative what so ever! In a race like that , you cannot die wondering! You have to ride the race as it presents itself!
Boundless...it was reported the mare had suffered heat stress
Master O'Reilly....jockey appears to have suffered heat stress although barrier 11 of 17 starters (after scratchings) maybe not ideal. Last year he had barrier 4, 6kegs less and got the favours. Take your point though GD, good jockeys try to create their own luck in situations that are less than ideal.
Remember Master O`Reilly had little competition last year as Sydney & Brisbane horses weren`t competing the Melbourne Cup was weak also and Efficient will be found out this year. We have the strongest batch of Europeans, i believe, ever to come here. The Kiwi stayers are providing a challenge this year and home grown stock is at one of its weakest levels for a long time. Efficient was asked to do nothing last year and has a weight that will anchor him this year in a much stronger Cup.
I agree 100% Steve!
While I do agree Steve, where was the Sydney/Brisbane representation in this years Caulfield Cup? I don't think this was much stronger than last year, certainly not Vintage, however, the form out of it should hold up for the Melbourne Cup. I agree totally that the internationals, i.e Goldolphin, O'Brien, are finally bringing the right horses.
In a word I think all the Aussie horses were PATHETIC!
I agree, Im sure most people will be looking to the international horses when it comes melbourne cup day.
Disgraceful performance from our runners.
its a worry isnt it... how embarassing would it be if SEPTIMUS spaced them like he did in his last run??
.....and Mad Rush was apparently one of the "weaker" imports this year. Look out if Septimus is keen.
Efficient vs. the world by the looks of things.
wouldnt discount ICE CHARIOT flying the flag late in the cup WHIZ... thought his run yesterday was very nice!!
With a better ride by Vlad, Master O Reilly probably gets a place. His run was a cracker and looks like a genuine chance. Agree with you Chilli. Ice Chariots run wasnt bad at all. Still, they need to beat the internationals. Based on the Caulfield Cup, the internationals have panels on us.
thats what it seems like BLACKY... might pay to have another look at SEPTIMUS last run in order to get some perspective while it is still at 6s... still every runner has the barrier draw to contend with yet... although NOM DE JUE made a mockery of it... if it can stay it is a massive hope in the cup... especially if COUP spaces them in the COX!
NDJ can go ever better with the following recipe...draw a lower marble and just add some extra water. Think CLG has a surprisingly similar recipe in the Cox Plate.
Just something to remember for next year, the last half dozen or so winners have won at their previous start, including this years winner All The Good.
