90 DAY or 30 DAY
What would you prefer.
The 90 day showing on the front page or the 30 day first.
I think the 30 day, because it's shows your recent tipping form.
YOUR OPINIONS PLEASE.
Don't get me wrong either Kagan, i'm not disgruntled, its just a passionate suggestion. You and the boys do a good job and I love this site.
Keep up the good work. I like that you are always looking to improve things and not resting on your laurels.
I`m with divagirl i can see no advantage and many disadvantages with 365 day ladderboard. It is basically dominated at the top by newbies who have not spent anything. As i said once before to Kagan i believe a tipper should have to serve a 30 day `apprenticeship` before he figures on the 90 day board & a 90 day apprenticeship before his stats count on the 365 day board to stop both being dominated by someone who has tipped 20 days and spent like $5000 compared to everyone elses $60000
I say if you buy my tips tomorrow and dont profit, I will never tip again .
Kagan What is the reasoning behind the 365 day board being considered as the default ?
we could knock this around all night...its obvious the 365 idea is not the go...i think if a good machine is working well..'why change it??'. FOR THOSE THAT ARE INTERESTED MY TIPS ARE IN FOR TOMORROW..expecting a nice return again
If it ain't broke, MAKE IT BETTER!!!
90 days is ok I think, and the 30 day is exciting to watch for the comp - short and sweet. A quarter of the year is a fair sample for the front page. Not enough tippers have been around for a year to get a good read - it is probably unfair to the long term members to use a 365 ladder when they have committed maybe 100 times as much in bets (more even!).
The "apprenticeship" idea Lilydale Steve put forward sounds ok - it could be a period of time or a number of tips eg 1 month or 100 tips whichever comes first. It doesn't seem entirely right or accurate that a new member can make top 20 or higher on their first day (it would have to be a top day).
Steve I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense. If a user tips consistently well over a year they should be able to show profits of $15k-$60k+. So assuming this is true then how will it be easy for a new user to come to the site and go straight to the top? There is only currently one new person in the top ten surround12, and if they continue on as they've started they will soon be the best tipper on this site.
The reasoning for the 365 as the default is so that the tippers who consistently tip well over a period of time and show and overall profit are promoted as having the best tips for sale. In a years time only the very best tippers on this site will be at the top of the 365 day ladder board and naturally these tippers will deserve to be there.
As long as there is a 30 day tipping competition which provides a quick reference point for punters seeking in form tipsters, I don't see why it's a problem. Taking an unbias look, it appears there may be tipsters who's form might not be so great outside the 90 day board, and they may be a little concerned about their position on the ladder... (This is not directed at anyone in particular pp lovers).
I must add this is not something that would be happening in the near future and it's not something set in stone. As a few of you have pointed out there is only a limited number of people with 365 day records and the 90 day default works quite well too. Whatever happens we won't be going back to 30 day default.
I prefer the current set up as explained by dr.whiz ---- the 30 day comp on the side is brilliant -short and sweet and keeps everyone excited. the 90 day as default shows of a consistent profit over the quarter as most businesses follow by, and the 365 days.... well, i just don't go there
For my two cents, I like the 90 day as I think the 30 day rewards long shot winners to much and higher strike rates with smaller wins take longer to build up a bank. This is only my opinion because this is my betting style. But with the way it is or even longer 365 day I would be happy as I think the 30 day comp gives a great indication of who is on fire at the moment LIKE DIVAGIRL!!!!!
Hey KAGAN how much server room and processing capability have you got spare at the moment ---- depending on that I may have another recommendation or two .
[xxvicelifexx] hey man ---- will you be good enough to explain the DUTCH BETTING syatem you mentioned above ,, I am always curious and looking for angles as well .
Hi guys I don't add my thoughts in here to often but on this I would like to see it stay how it is as I only tip 1-3 horses that I've got mail on each day and some days none at all. I'm trying to build up a great strike rate and a good profit over time but people will not even know I exist if I can't get on the 90 day leader board. Not being critical as at this stage my results aren't brilliant but I'm working on it, but players like Divagirl who is having an unbelievable month don't keep it up over time just look at her 365 day results $35 000 in the hole, for me consistency is the key and tipsters like Sparticus are the ones I follow lots of winners over a long period. Not trying to upset anyone just my opinion. Happy Punting.
I think the 365 day stat is the most important one for would be buyers. It's no good being 10K up for the month but a total of 50,000K down for the year.
But maybe I'm wrong. It could be that most buyers just want to jump on whoever's in profit at the time and jump off as soon as they start a losing run.
Dingoss Dutch betting or `dutching` as it is known is where you back two or more runners in the same race for different ammounts to obtain a profit if any of them win. eg. you like 3 runners in a race A is paying $3, B is paying $7 & C is paying $12. So you put $10 on A to return $30, $ 5 on B to return $35 and $3 on C to return $36. Your total outlay is $18 and you win $12 if a wins, $17 if B wins or $18 if C wins. Hope this helps.
It seems I've adopted the Dutch betting system in quaddies since they introduced the flexi system...
Why not allow it to save whatever settings the user sets it to? I generally flick between 90 and 30 days and win and e/w depending on what I am looking at... but it would be nice if when I set it to 30, it stayed there unless I changed it again. So, if the settings are going to be changed, is there a way that a user can save the settings to suit themself, or so that it is automatically saved, for that user, for the next time they open? That way, everyone can be happy, with whichever way they like to view it.
um....doesnt the site already have all 3 options to view? if someone wants to buy they can just look at the 365 day leaderboard or 30 or 90 day leaderboard. if i wanted to buy someone's tips i wouldnt just look at the brief front page stats. id go to their page and see 30,90 and 365 days stats and maybe look at their tips to see like avg wins and strike rate for all of them, look at their comment perhaps and then make a well thought out decision to buy their tips.
the site has the 30 day leaderboard in top right of most pages also. dont think its much of an issue but if i had to choose i would definately stay at 90. i just go into people's pages and look at 365 anyway if i were to ever buy.
Im with SAMWISE here... all 3 options are valid.. for example if i was looking for a tipster i would see if anyone has managed to pop up on each leaderboard... 90 day is a fair barometer.
[Lilydale_Steve] yeah thxxs Steve that helps a lot . I do the same thing here with my PP tips when I select an outsider whixh is more often that not .Sort of a HEDGING exercise . Steve did you see the Thread entitled Saddle Cloth NUMBERS a coupla days ago ,, I think that involved a variation of this Dutch thing . thxxs man your imput is always great .
i have been a member since 2007sept 365days profit cver $ 2000 90days over $2000 profit 30days profit over$2000 place at 54% av $2.12 .The only time I have sold tips is when you are on the leader board for 30days or90days WHICH DOSE,NT HAPPEN OFTEN the longer you have been tipping.
dingoss no i missed the saddlecloth thing but dutching is nothing new in fact most proffessionals do it.
Another thought, something I wouldn't mind being able to do, is just to view their stats for Saturday meetings only. Many people only like to bet on Saturdays, and I believe some people do very well on the weekends but then not so well during the week. I would frequently view peoples stats for Saturday results only if it was available.
