Another Belmore memory. In 1993 I attended Belmore, Eels v Bulldogs in Round 5. Parra scored first and led 6-0. Fulltime score Bulldogs 42 Parramatta 6. lol

Yep, it was multicultural day at Belmore. I remember the commercial on TV promoting the game and a few Bulldogs supporters speaking another language. I think Jim Serdaris was one of those players.

Parra scored the first points of the game and I think it was from a charge down.

[h=1]T-Rex to have first run with Bulldogs[/h]
Canterbury fans will get their first look at Test back-rower Tony Williams in the blue and white with the former Manly star named to play in the Bulldogs' opening NRL trial on Sunday.

Williams will play the second half of the hitout against NSW Cup side Newtown at Belmore Sports Ground, alongside the likes of first-team regulars Josh Reynolds, Aiden Tolman and Krisnan Inu.

Coach Des Hasler named a team of fringe players to contest the first half, his line-up including 2012 NYC player of the year David Klemmer in the front row and former City Origin representative Trent Hodkinson at halfback.

Hodkinson missed most of the 2012 season due to knee and shoulder injuries, but will be given an early chance to impress in what looms as a battle for the Bulldogs No.7 jumper with Kris Keating.

Both halves will work under the tutelage of former Manly premiership-winning skipper Matt Orford, who has linked up with the club as a skills coach.

Hodkinson was Orford's understudy at the Sea Eagles prior to the latter's departure from the club following the 2009 season.

Klemmer could be fast-tracked into the NRL this season with English prop James Graham to miss the first 10 rounds due to the suspension he incurred for biting Billy Slater's ear in last year's grand final.

Josh Morris and Ben Barba will miss the game due to All Stars duty while skipper Michael Ennis, Frank Pritchard and Sam Kasiano have all been rested.

[h=1]Match Preview: Bulldogs v Jets[/h]

Friday 8 February 2013 4:05 PM

http://staticnrl.sportalhosting.com/site/_content/LeadImage/00057739-leadimage.jpg
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs will take on the Newtown Jets this Sunday at Belmore Sports Ground with kick-off at 5.00pm.
Coach Des Hasler has selected the majority of his squad with only Michael Ennis, Frank Pritchard, Sam Kasiano and Greg Eastwood sitting out of the match. Ben Barba, Josh Morris and Joel Romelo are also unavailable due to selection in the All-Stars match that will take place on Saturday night.
Front rower Aiden Tolman is one man who is definitely looking forward to getting out and having a good run.
“It will be a bit of a weird feeling coming up against opposition,” Tolman said. “We’ve been at it pretty hard here for three and a half months so it’s definitely good to be back playing again.”
“It’s great to have a physical test, we do a lot of training but when you’re up against someone it is a lot more exciting.
“There have been a number of things we’ve worked on in the off-season and we’ll take a few into this game but I must admit it is pretty easy for me playing in the forwards.
With the departure of players like David Stagg, the retirement of Corey Payne and James Graham being unavailable Tolman says the squad are well aware that there are a few spots available in the team that gets selected for round one.
“That’s right, there are a few spots available. They are in the forwards as well so I need to go out again and earn my spot, that is what trials are for.
“The squad has remained the same in the outside backs but there at least three spots available so it’s good for competition and good for the team.”
Prior to the NRL kick-off at 5.00pm, there will be the Holden Cup side up against the Auburn Warriors at 3.00pm, SG Ball against the Melbourne Storm at 1.00pm and the Harold Matthews side also against the Storm at 11.30am.

Williams makes 'Dogs debut in NRL trial

Canterbury fans are salivating at the prospect of a fearsome one-two punch after getting their first glimpse of blockbusting back-rower Tony Williams in Sunday's NRL trial win over Newtown.

The Bulldogs were too good for their NSW Cup opponents, winning 36-14 at Belmore Sportsground, but the scoreline took a back seat to the blue-and-white debut of former Manly juggernaut Williams.

Williams joined his first-team regulars in playing the second half of the low-key trial, Bulldogs coach Des Hasler giving his first indication as to how he plans to use the NSW Origin and Test representative as he lined up on the right edge alongside Josh Reynolds and Krisnan Inu.

Williams played much of his football at Manly on the left edge, but it appears the Bulldogs will attack both sides, with 'T-Rex' on one side and Frank Pritchard on the other.

"It's something we can work with," Hasler said of his formations, with Pritchard joining the likes of Michael Ennis, Sam Kasiano, Greg Eastwood, the suspended James Graham and All-Stars representatives Ben Barba and Josh Morris as spectators on Sunday.

"Some sides might think it's good that he (Williams) might play on the right side but then you've got someone like a Josh Jackson or a Frank Pritchard coming at you."

Williams, who skittled a number of defenders on one powerful run, wasn't too concerned with where he played, but was happy to rekindle his partnership with his former Manly mentor Hasler.

"It's a bonus for me that he's here. I'm only going to improve being under him," Williams said of Hasler.

"It doesn't really bother me (where I play). I'm just here to do my best for the team and that's what's best for the team - that's what I have to do."

After the fringe squad members ran up a 22-4 lead at the break, the Bulldogs found themselves under plenty of early pressure when the available first-choice squad took to the field.

But after conceding an early try, they soon found some rhythm with Reynolds and Sam Perrett among the tryscorers.
