Ground Details: Built on the same site as the old Cumberland Oval.

The stadium was constructed between 1982 and 1986 after Parramatta fans celebrating their 1981 grand final victory over Newtown burnt down the old Cumberland Oval grandstand. It was officially re-opened by Queen Elizabeth II on March 5, 1986.

Parramatta Stadium remains one of the premier rectangular venues in the city.

Parramatta Stadium history
Parramatta Stadium is a multi-purpose outdoor Stadium which was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Phillip on 5 March, 1986. Patrons and hirers acknowledge that the Stadium is the most intimate and enjoyable facility for entertainment and sporting events.

Parramatta Stadium replaced Cumberland Oval in 1986 as the new home for Rugby League in Western Sydney. From the decaying stands of Cumberland Oval, rose Parramatta Stadium, a new landmark in the Parramatta area, replacing the memories of the old oval which was known as the home of Rugby League in the area since the 13 a side sport began there in 1910.

With its predecessor being oval in shape, the new venue was rectangular to support not only Rugby League, but Soccer and Rugby Union as well. The Parramatta Stadium Trust was formed and took control of the ground in March 1989 from the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust.

Parramatta is well located, being the gateway to the greater western region of Sydney. Parramatta has approximately 1.5 million residents within a radius of 12 kilometres of the venue and is served by public transport links including Parramatta Railway Station.

Parramatta Stadium has always been recognised as the home of the local team, the Parramatta Eels. In addition the Stadium has hosted a number of annual community events including the Teddy Bears Picnic and Youth Alive Concert series in addition to various concerts and Rugby Union events.
