Leeds Rhinos have agreed to release 22 year old winger Danny Williams from the remaining four months of his contract to enable him to take up an offer from Guinness Premiership side Newcastle Falcons.

Williams, a product of the Rhinos Academy, made the breakthrough to the Rhinos first team in 2006, aged nineteen. That season he scored an incredible 12 tries in 15 appearances and ended a fantastic year by collecting his first cap for England in the Federation Shield tournament. The following season he spent a spell on loan with Castleford Tigers who he helped achieve promotion to Super League with. He returned to Leeds this year and made a further three substitute appearances however he was not offered a new contact by the club beyond the end of the current season.

Commenting on the announcement Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said, "Danny Williams has always done his best for the Rhinos and he leaves with our very best wishes."

Hull FC sign Danny Williams on loan

Hull FC has snapped up exciting 21-year-old Leeds Rhinos winger Danny Williams on a month's loan.

Williams will go straight into the side for Friday nights engage Super League opener against Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium (7-30pm).

With Great Britain wing ace Gareth Raynor (hamstring) and former Australian Test star Matt Sing (foot) out injured, Hull are short of cover.

New recruit, Australian Todd Byrne will play on the right wing and Williams will now occupy the left wing.

It's a move which has pleased coach Peter Sharp, who said: "Wing is a specialist position and we are short of options. Danny will certainly do a good job for us.

"I think everyone is aware we are strained a little in the backs but Danny has taken some of the pressure off.

"He is a useful player and if you look at his record he certainly knows where the try line is. Hopefully, he can find it on Friday."

In 2006, Williams had a spectacular spell for the Rhinos, scoring 12 tries in 15 games. He didn't make the side last season but was loaned out to Castleford and helped them back into Super League with 10 tries in nine games.
