Broncos sign Te'o and re-sign Wallace and Michaels

The WOW Brisbane Broncos have made major steps in securing the future of the club today with the signing of NRL stars Peter Wallace, Steve Michaels and Ben Te'o.

The club has also locked up some of the best talent in the National Youth Competition with the retention of Bronco under-20 players Gerard Beale, Josh Hoffman, Ben Hunt, Andrew McCullough, Josh McGuire, Will Tupou and Jharal Yow Yeh.

Wallace's three-year contract extension, that will tie him to the Broncos until the end of the 2012 season, is just reward for a year that has already included elevation to State of Origin status.

Michaels has re-signed for a further two years in the Broncos, with the club certain he can develop the great form he showed before a knee injury this year.

And Wests Tigers player Te'o, who went to school at Keebra Park High, will return to Queensland on a one-year deal.

"Peter Wallace has done everything right since he moved up here this season and we obviously see him as a player who has an important future at this club," said Broncos' chief executive Bruno Cullen.

"Although Steve Michaels has suffered a serious injury this year, his new deal is a sign of the faith we have in his career continuing on an upward path.

"And with Tonie Carroll moving on into retirement at the end of this year, Ben Te'o is going to fill an important role as a wide-running forward for us.

"We feel the signing of these three NRL players, combined with the retention of the young Toyota Cup players who have shown they too have something to offer, is a large step forward for the Brisbane Broncos club as a whole."

All seven of the Toyota Cup players, including new NRL debutants Hoffman and McCullough, have been re-signed for a further two years.

WOW Brisbane Broncos' halfback Peter Wallace is out for at least one match after minor groin surgery last night.

While the operation was successful, Wallace will definitely not play against the Raiders at Canberra Stadium on Sunday.

The exact period of rehabilitation needed will not be ascertained until Wallace's surgery settles down next week.

"We will not know when he can get back on the training or playing field until after the weekend," said Broncos' performance director Jeremy Hickmans this morning.

"The operation went well and he is out of hospital today.

"It will just be a matter of assessing him next week to see when he can resume running."

Broncos 2006 premiership-winning halfback Shane Perry has been brought into the Brisbane squad for the Raiders match, with coach Wayne Bennett to finalise his team at training tomorrow morning.
