Raiders re-sign Thurling
Wed April 23, 2008

Hard hitting Raiders forward Trevor Thurling will remain in Raiders Colours until the end of 2010, after agreeing to a new two-year deal today.

Thurling has forced his way into the Raiders team in 2008 with some solid performances from the interchange bench, and has stamped himself as one of the new generation of Raiders forwards.

A Raiders junior, Thurling made his debut for the Bulldogs in 2004, but returned to his junior club in 2006 after he was offered the chance to return home to play for the Green Machine.

Thurling said he was excited about the chance of getting a new two year deal, and was looking forward to getting back on the park in round eight, after serving the second week of a two match suspension.

"It's good to get the contract talks over nice and early in the year, to get on the field and show some form and get a contract is great," Thurling said. "Hopefully now I can get back into the side in two weeks time and finish off a successful year with the Raiders."

Setting goals for the future is something Thurling has now focused on, including getting back into the first grade team, and eventually starting for the Raiders.

"Last year my main goal was to try and play every game after coming off two knee re-constructions, and I played all season and worked on securing a spot in first grade which has happened at the start of this year," he said. "Its been good getting some more game time coming off the bench, and I think I can offer the team something when I get out there.

"I'm just happy to be in the team every week, and if I can push for a starting spot and that happens, than so be it."

Raiders CEO Don Furner said it was important to keep local talent such as Thurling, and it showed that the club rewarded players who worked hard on their game.

"Trevor's a local product and we lost him to the Bulldogs a couple of years ago, but we kept our eye on him, got him back, he's only young and he'll get better," Furner said. "He has proved himself to the club, and we're happy to have him on board for another two years."
