Guttenbeil and Sherwin named Castleford co-captains
Fri January 18, 2008

Castleford Tigers coach Terry Matterson has taken the unusual step of naming co-captains for the forthcoming Super League season, with former Kiwi test star Awen Guttenbeil and star new signing Brent Sherwin sharing the role.

Speaking about his decision, Matterson said: "This is a new step for me but I believe that it is the right one and will work well. Awen is a very experienced player who everyone looks up to and he leads by example. But in his position in the forwards he probably won't be on the pitch all of the game so I wanted this option. Brent too has bags of experience at the highest level in the NRL and will be our play maker so I believe that the two will compliment each other."

Guttenbeil is in his second season at the Jungle having joined the club from the New Zealand Warriors.

Sherwin was signed this off season from the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Sherwin to wear No.7 as Tigers confirm squad numbers
Sat November 24, 2007
by Matthew O'Neill
Castleford Tigers Terry Matterson has unveiled his 2008 Super League squad numbers with star signing Brent Sherwin winning the No7 jumper.

The Tigers won promotion back into the Super League after a season in the National League One division with 16 members of that squad retaining their spots.

Six new signings were announced by Castleford with Sherwin's one the biggest and his presence at halfback is expected to make a huge difference to the Tigers.

Castleford resumed training this week with Matterson taking the opportunity to confirm who'll be wearing what in 2008.

Matterson however said, "I don't want people to read too much into the numbers. Obviously they haven't been allocated on a random basis but I have stressed to the guys that the 17 form players will be selected and that squad numbers won't be a factor."

The Tigers 2008 squad with numbers is -

1. Luke Dorn
