Reddy named as replacement for Smith
Tue September 11, 2007
by Matthew O'Neill
Joel Reddy has been named in the centres for the injured Ben Smith as Parramatta prepares for Saturday's grudge semi-final against the Bulldogs.

Parramatta have been waiting nine years to extract revenge on the Bulldogs following their dramatic collapse in the 1998 Grand Final Qualifier where they surrended an 18-2 lead with just ten minutes remaining. Only captain Nathan Cayless and outstanding back-rower Nathan Hindmarsh remain from that ill-fated afternoon, but ever since that day the Finals have been a curse for the Eels.

There's been a change of coach since the Eels dramatic collapses on the big stage and current coach Michael Hagan is a very smooth operator under pressure and has been involved in Grand Final's as a player and coach.

Parramatta have been one of the form sides in recent weeks where they showed against Brisbane they can score points from anywhere on the football and last week against the Warriors showed they have the toughness and fire to repel any onslaught.

The selection of Reddy is an interesting one as there's strong rumours that Luke Burt will be rushed straight back into the Eels side, which will mean that Jarryd Hayne shifts out to the wing and Krisnan Inu moves into the centres with Reddy being relegated back to Premier League. At this stage the reports are just rumours, but it will be no surprise to see Burt run out onto the field on Saturday night.

Parramatta comfortably disposed of the Bulldogs the last time they met at Telstra Stadium and they won't be worried playing at what is normally the Bulldogs home ground. The Bulldogs have only won four from 12 matches at the venue this season and one of the Bulldogs away victories this year was at Parramatta Stadium.

The Eels deserve to start the match as favourites due to their form and superior speed and depth across the park and one of the key players for Parramatta will be five-eighth Brett Finch. The much malligned former NSW halfback has enjoyed a fine season under Hagan and his presence will have a huge bearing on the game.

Controversial referee Shayne Hayne will be in charge of the match with his video assistants being Chris Ward and Bill Harrigan.

Tim Smith remains in Premier League
Tue May 23, 2006
by James Stewart
Jason Taylor has opted to keep dumped Eels halfback Tim Smith in Premier League for this weekends clash with the Sydney Roosters but will play Mark Riddell off the bench.

Smith's form hasn't been great ever since the Eels stumble at the NRL's penultimate weekend in 2005 against the Cowboys. Taylor has opted to keep Jeremy Smith at halfback in partnership with John Morris. Only weeks ago the pair were together in premier league.

Also coming up from the Eels star studded premier league side is Joel Reddy who'll play his first top grade game since his impressive debut games from Round 23 to Round 25 last season. Reddy replaces fullback Wade McKinnon who was injured in last friday's clash against Penrith.

Timana Tahu, Eric Grothe Jnr and Nathan Hindmarsh come back into the side also, giving the Eels their strongest looking line up of the season.
