Statement on Gareth Raynor allegations
Fri August 15, 2008
Source: www.hullfc.com

Hull FC and Great Britain international winger Gareth Raynor has categorically denied allegations made against him.

His solicitor Bill Waddington has issued a statement on behalf of his client and Hull FC concerning these allegations.

The statement reads:

"Unfortunately, there has been much speculation and inaccurate reporting of an investigation by the Trading Standards Department into alleged activities by, amongst others, Gareth Raynor.

"In order to hopefully put an end to the speculation, the Club is in a position to confirm that on Wednesday 13th August 2008 Gareth Raynor was questioned by members of the Trading Standards Department about alleged offences under the Trade Marks Act.

"After questioning Mr. Raynor was bailed to return at a later stage to allow further enquiries to be made.

"Any wrong doing by Mr. Raynor is categorically denied.

"The allegations arise following an investigation into activities by Mr. Raynor in his own personal time. For reasons of sub judice neither the Club nor Mr. Raynor will comment further and we would hope others will do the same.

"A full investigation into how information about the inquiry was released to the Press is underway."

Time running out for Raynor
Wed August 8, 2007

Time is running out this season for wing ace Gareth Raynor and he knows it.

The Great Britain star is desperate not just to face Warrington Wolves at the KC Stadium on Sunday (3:15pm), but also score.

Why? The problem is, Raynor, who has an excellent strike rate of tries per game, faces the embarrassment of going through the entire season without scoring a try on his home ground.

The 29-year-old, who recently signed a new three year deal with the club, sheepishly revealed this week, "Do you know I haven't scored at the KC this season, how embarrassing is that."

In fact, it is even worse because it is over a year since the classy Raynor last crossed the whitewash at the KC.

It was on August 4, 2006 when he scored two tries against his old club Leeds Rhinos in a 23-16 victory.

After Sunday's game, Hull only have two more home Super League matches left, against Hull KR on September 2 and the final league game of the season when they take on Bradford Bulls on September 14.

If they finish in the top four they will get a home play off tie but Raynor is not taking anything for granted.

Since he injured ankle ligaments against Catalans in Perpignan, Raynor has missed Hull's last two games, one was the home match against Salford, and he added: "I don't want to miss anymore if I'm going to get this try, do I.

"If I don't play on Sunday we only have two games left at the KC, so playing this weekend is important and not just that it will give me a chance to score but also for the team.

"The scoring bit is personal but on a broader picture I want to be back playing and help secure a top four place, which I am confident we are capable of getting.

"We're playing better and we're more confident but this weekend is going to be tough because Warrington is in great form and they are coming having won their last four games.

"It is important we carry the form we have shown recently into this game because a win over them would make a big difference to our chances."

Raynor has been working out with his centre partner Kirk Yeaman who could also return at the weekend after damaging his ankle in France. Gareth admits his ankle isn't perfect but added: "Although my ankle is still a bit sore it is improving all the time and it just needs strapping. I haven't done much running but I'll step that up in the next few days.

"I desperately want to play and I feel it is important for the team, especially with Singy (Matt Sing) being out."

RAYNOR STATS:

2007 season: Appearances 20, tries 5, goals 0, drop goals 0, points 20

Appearances: 152, tries 84, goals 0, drop goals 0, points 336

Average tries per game: He has scored a try every 1.81 games
