Source: www.wiganwarriors.comWigan Warriors can today confirm that full-back Richard Mathers, utility back Cameron Phelps and back-row forwards Harrison Hansen and Lee Mossop have all signed contract extensions. In addition, centre George Carmont has triggered the second year of his conditional two-year contract.
Mathers signed for the Warriors from Gold Coast Titans in November 2007 on a three-year deal, with seasons 2009 and 2010 subject to his completing a certain number of games. Although this target was not met in 2008, Chairman Ian Lenagan and Head Coach Brian Noble both believe that Mathers is deserving of the contract extension for 2009 plus a Wigan option for 2010.
Cameron Phelps arrived at the end of May for the remainder of 2008 and has now signed for 2009 with a further option for 2010 in Wigan's favour. Lee Mossop, who made his first-team debut this year scoring a try in the Challenge Cup tie against SM Pia XIII, has agreed terms for 2009 and 2010 with a 3rd year option for Wigan. Harrison Hansen has also signed a further two-year contract extension committing to Wigan until the end of 2011.
The fifth player to commit his future to the Club is George Carmont who originally agreed a two-year deal with the Warriors, the second year of which was subject to a certain number of appearances. George has easily reached this level having played in every game so far this season.
On the signings, Chairman Ian Lenagan said:
"We are pleased we have secured the futures of these five players all of whom are important members of the future Wigan squad.
"Richard Mathers' enthusiasm and positive attitude since his arrival has been one of the deciding factors in our decision to keep him at the Club. He has a strong desire and passion to play for Wigan Warriors and we are pleased to give him the opportunity of a further season to rediscover his pre-injury form.
"Cameron Phelps has shown what a good addition he is having settled in quickly with the versatility to play at full-back, centre or on the wing and to be a useful goal kicker as well. He deserves his contract extension and to be part of our squad for 2009 and possibly 2010.
"Harrison Hansen has had a good first year of being consistently selected for the first-team. His defence has been excellent and we hope he will now take the opportunity of the next three years to move on to a higher level of performance.
"Lee Mossop has impressed in the Reserves this season and has improved from being around the first-team squad. He is a quality youngster and a great prospect for the future.
"George Carmont has proven what a consistently solid player he is. He has been one of our best players this year and an excellent buy for Wigan. We are delighted to have him in the squad."
Head Coach Brian Noble commented,
"I am pleased that the future of these five players has been secured providing important continuity within a developing Wigan squad - important for the individuals, for me and for the Club as we plan ahead for 2009 and beyond."

Source: www.wiganwarriors.comWigan Warriors confirm the signing today of 23-year old Canterbury Bulldogs Centre, Cameron Phelps, for the remainder of the 2008 season with the option of a contract extension for 2009.
Phelps has been released early by the Bulldogs to enable him to take up the opportunity with the Warriors and he played his last game for the NRL club yesterday against Cronulla Sharks. He will arrive in the UK on Wednesday and has been registered by the Warriors for the Carnegie Challenge Cup so could make his debut in the game at Leeds this Saturday.
Phelps has represented Australia Schoolboys, New South Wales Under-17's, New South Wales Under-19's and Australia Under-19's and made his first team debut for the Bulldogs in 2005. Since then, he has played 39 first team games for the Bulldogs scoring 12 tries.
Speaking about the signing, Chairman Ian Lenagan said:
"We have had our eye on Cameron for a number of months as an inexpensive young player with speed and agility who can add competition for places in our back line this year. Hopefully, his performances this season with Wigan can then justify a contract extension.
"We would like to thank Canterbury for agreeing to release Cameron early."
Phelps added,
"I am excited about the prospect of playing for Wigan and, when I learned of the Warriors interest, it was an opportunity I just had to take. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Bulldogs but this is a real chance for me to prove my ability in Super League. I have agreed terms for the remainder of this season and it's up to me to impress and earn the chance to extend my stay at Wigan."
