Todd Lowrie moving on

Newcastle Knights backrower, Todd Lowrie has today announced that he will join the Parramatta Eels for a three year term.

"It's always disappointing to lose local juniors due to Salary Cap restrictions but we're not in the business of holding back our players from making the most of opportunities," said Knights CEO, Ken Conway.

"We felt obliged to repay Todd's service to the club by allowing him to field other offers. It's unfortunate but we were unable to match Parramatta. Todd has been an excellent junior and a great ambassador for the Newcastle Knights."

A Scone Thoroughbred junior, the robust forward joined the Knights SG Ball squad when he was 16, making his First Grade debut in June 2003 (Round 15) against Penrith at Penrith Football Stadium.

"I'm disappointed to be leaving Newcastle and I'll miss my friends and team mates, but I've accepted my future is elsewhere and I'm excited about the challenges ahead," Lowrie said.

"The Knights have a surplus of backrowers so I'm going to a club where I have the chance to cement my preferred position."

Lowrie will play his 52nd First Grade game for the Knights this weekend against his future club when the Knights travel to Parramatta Stadium.

"The form and dedication he's displayed this year has been outstanding and we wish him every success at Parramatta," Mr Conway said.

Former Scone Thoroughbred, Todd Lowrie has been called into the Newcastle Knights First Grade squad, for their round two clash against the Canberra Raiders at Canberra Stadium this Sunday, March 19 at 3:00pm.

Coach Michael Hagan has re-shuffled his season opening 17-man squad, following confirmation Clint Newton will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a back injury.

Kirk Reynoldson joins the starting line up while Lowrie will run on from the bench.

"Based on the impact Todd had on the side last year and the skills he possesses, I?m confident he?ll add another dimension to the team on Sunday.

"A solid performance in Premier League last week and his proven track record in the past has seen Todd elevated to the top grade",
said Hagan.

Lowrie is the only addition to an otherwise unchanged squad as the Knights chase their second win of the year in the nation's capital.

"It's comforting to know when you look to the club?s depth players of Todd's calibre are available", said Hagan.

Last weekend, a full house witnessed the Knights defeat the Parramatta Eels 25-6 at EnergyAustralia Stadium with International winger, Brian Carney scoring on his NRL debut.

Fullback, Milton Thaiday displayed lethal speed and skills, and a youthful return to form by Matt Gidley saw the home side claim victory.

The team leaves for Canberra on Saturday morning.
