Source: www.warriors.co.nzQueensland State of Origin back rower Jacob Lillyman has signed with the Vodafone Warriors on a two-year contract.
The 24-year-old, who has played four times for the Maroons in the last three seasons, will give the Vodafone Warriors four players of Origin experience on their 2009 playing roster.
He'll link up with current Queensland representatives Steve Price and Brent Tate as well as his former Cowboys team-mate Nathan Fien, who made one appearance for the Maroons in 2001.
A 62-game player with the North Queensland Cowboys, Lillyman is one of the NRL's best defensive back rowers.
"It's great to have my future sorted out and I'm really looking forward to coming to Auckland," he said.
"A few of the boys at the Vodafone Warriors have gone across after playing for North Queensland and they've all been happy with the move. That helped with my decision.
"But most of all I like what's happening at the club. They've got a really good set-up with their coaching staff and squad."
Vodafone Warriors coach Ivan Cleary said he couldn't be happier with the signing.
"We're delighted to be able to secure such a good player," he said.
"He's a top-quality defender who's still young but gives us representative experience and a great work ethic. It's a fantastic signing for us as we look to build our squad for the future."
Lillyman's arrival will follow the departure of veteran back rowers Logan Swann (33) and Wairangi Koopu (28), who will finish up with the club at the end of this season.
Last month the Vodafone Warriors signed Brisbane winger Denan Kemp (21) on a two-year deal and, in recent weeks, they have re-signed Price, Wade McKinnon, Manu Vatuvei and Aidan Kirk as well as exciting young prospects Sonny Fai, Russell Packer and Ben Matulino, who have all made their NRL debuts this year after being promoted from the club's NYC side.
