Hull FC re-sign Graeme Horne

Hull FC has agreed a new one-year deal with England utility player Graeme Horne.

The 23-year-olds new contract will take him to the end of the 2009 engage Super League season and he said: "I am very pleased. I have always said Hull FC is my club and I am delighted to have got a new contract."

Coach Richard Agar is also pleased he has another of his young starlets signed up, and said: "I'm delighted he is still on board and it is a reward for some good performances recently."

Horne revealed that the deal will keep him on his toes and added: "It is another year in which I have to challenge myself and make sure I am in the team every week.

"We have had an injury ravaged season this year but next year everyone is going to be fighting fit and the competition for places will be very intense.

"Rich (Agar) is one of those coaches who will drop you if you aren't playing well and he will give anyone a chance if they deserve it.

"That's how it should be and I have to make sure that my name is on that team sheet each week and I know the only way to ensure that is by playing well each week.

"You have to be on your toes and the challenge to be in the side is one that really exits me.

"I think I have had a pretty good season this year and hopefully I can kick on from that by having a good off season and then getting in the side from the start.

"But I know competition is going to be tough whether I play in the centres or back row.

"My versatility is a bonus in some respects but at some time I'd like to have a settled position.

"Right now I am enjoying playing centre but next year we'll have four or five and if I go in the back row we have a fair few of them as well, especially with Michael Crocker coming.

"It is going to be a challenge for everyone but it is a really exciting time and I'm delighted to be part of it."

Agar added: "He is still a young player but he has over 100 first team games under his belt which gives him and us plenty of experience.

"His versatility has already proved its worth and it is a massive bonus to our squad."

Hull FC loan Horne to Doncaster
Fri November 23, 2007
Source: www.hullfc.com

Hull FC have agreed to loan utility player Graeme Horne to ambitious National League Two Doncaster on a month by month agreement.

After breaking his jaw playing for England at the end of 2006, Horne struggled to regain a regular place in the Hull side last season.

The 22-year-old is still regarded as a player for the future but because the club can't guarantee him a first team place they feel he'll be better playing National League football rather than in the under 21s.

Chief executive James Rule said: "Graeme is a talented young player and is still very much part of our plans.

"It is for that reason we have agreed to loan him out to Doncaster. We feel that it will be more beneficial to his development that he plays in the National League rather than the 21s when not required to play first team football."

Coach Peter Sharp believes this is a good move, adding: "There is no question that Graeme has talent. He is a good player and he's currently training the house down.

"I expect him to push hard for a first team place but if he doesn't get in then playing for Doncaster is a good move.

"In our opinion the standard of National League is better than the 21s and that will enable Graeme to grow in confidence and develop, which ultimately is a benefit to us."

The deal has delighted Doncaster coach John Stankevitch who has a first hand knowledge of Horne's ability having played opposite him when he was with St Helens.

"Graeme is a player I respect and rate very highly having played against him," said Stankevitch. "I think we have recruited very well this season and Graeme is another excellent signing for us.

"He is young, ambitious and has a lot of talent and I have no doubts he will help make our side tick."

Having agreed a month by month loan deal with Doncaster it means Hull have the option of recalling him at the end of each month.

"If Graeme is playing outstandingly well and deserves a chance in Super League then we have the ability to recall him," said chief executive James Rule. "I feel it is a win - win situation for Graeme and us."

It is a move which has delighted Doncaster and their chief executive Shane Miller said: "This is a great loan signing for Doncaster and it puts the final touches to our squad for the 2008 season.

"It is also good for us to be working with Hull and I believe we are building up an excellent partnership."
