Titans re-sign Henderson
Fri July 18, 2008
Source: www.titans.com.au

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans are excited to announce that talented prop Michael Henderson has been re-signed by the club until the end of the 2012 season.

Henderson, who still had 18 months to run on his existing contract, has agreed to a new three-year extension which will see him remain in Titans colours for the next four seasons.

The 24-year-old, who hails from Griffith in NSW, has worked tirelessly to make a successful return from a broken leg suffered last season and has played five NRL games since making his comeback in June this year.

Jetstar Titans managing director Michael Searle said Henderson was viewed as a potential future leader at the club.

"The club has absolute faith in Michael,'' said Searle.

"His recovery from the injury has been inspiring and his dedication has been fantastic.

"We see him as a potential successor for co-captain Luke Bailey, as a leader at the club.''

Jetstar Titans coach John Cartwright said Henderson had shown great determination throughout his comeback from injury and declared his best football was still in front of him.

"You build your side on front rowers,'' said Cartwright.

"Hendo has had a very tough couple of years with injury and he's shown what he's made of with the way he's come back.

"He probably should only be getting back to playing first grade now but out of necessity he's played the last five games and he's performed well.

"He's young as far as front rowers are concerned so his best football is in front of him and I feel representative footy is only around the corner for him.''

Henderson, who spent four seasons with the St George Illawarra Dragons from 2003-06 before joining the Titans last year, said he was thrilled to have secured his long-term future, 12 months on from suffering a nasty spiral fracture in his leg.

"It's very pleasing. The last 12 or so months have been pretty tough and not what I really wanted when I moved up here,'' said Henderson.

"But I'm extremely happy with way the leg has come back and the way I've recovered. I feel my form is getting better each game and it's great the Titans have shown tremendous faith in me over the last 12 months.

"Now for the Titans to give me a long-term deal, it's great. I love the Gold Coast, the club and the players involved so I couldn't be happier.''

Season over for Henderson
Sat April 14, 2007
Source: www.titans.com.au

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans Prop Michael Henderson's season is over as a result of a leg injury he sustained in last night's triumph over the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.

One of the better performers in last night's clash Henderson will undergo surgery this afternoon to insert a tibial nail after suffering a spiral fracture to the right tibia four minutes from full time. The injury happened when Henderson fell awkwardly in a tackle while running the ball out of his own half.

Henderson vowed to return as quickly as possible, "This is devastating, but as hard as it is to take at the moment I am just going to focus on ensuring I recover well and return to training as soon as humanly possible. How long that takes is a little early to tell at the moment, we'll just have to wait and see how the surgery goes this afternoon and the rehab process when I am back on my feet."

Coach John Cartwright who is also disappointed by the extent of Henderson's injury said, "Michael was just beginning to hit his straps and last night's performance was proof that he was starting to stamp himself. It is unfortunate for him and the club and we wish him a speedy recovery."

One of the first to visit Henderson in the medical rooms at Suncorp Stadium was fellow Prop Luke Bailey who has been a mentor for the young front rower now and at their former club the Dragons.

Bailey said, "It is devastating for Mick because he has done everything asked of him and more during the long pre-season and the first five rounds of the season.

"Tonight I think Michael proved himself as an outstanding young front rower and I wish him all the best and look forward to playing with him again in the not too distant future."

Henderson will remain in hospital for 2-3 days and all going well is expected to begin rehab in 8 weeks.
