Heighington shook hands on a new contract late this afternoon with Wests Tigers Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell.
He will be with the Wests Tigers until the end of 2011.
Heighington has been in fine form in 2008 and leads the tally for most hit-ups and runs in the NRL. His form saw him break through for his first Country Origin representative jersey.
"I'm very happy with my decision and it is a big relief off my shoulders,'' said Heighington, who attracted plenty of interest from other clubs.
"I had to give the Wests Tigers the opportunity to re-sign me as I have played here for six years. They worked on a new deal over the last two weeks and the salary cap was obviously a factor.
"It will be nine years at Wests Tigers by the time my new contract expires. It is a good feeling.
"The salary cap stops plenty of players from playing nine years at the one club. I'm stoked that I am not one of them.
"Hopefully I will be a one club man for the rest of my career.''
McDonnell said Heighington is highly respected at Wests Tigers.
"Chris is a loyal type of person and we are very happy to have him stay at the club,'' McDonnell said.
"He will be the cornerstone of the Wests Tigers pack over the next few seasons. Chris is a fantastic role model for the club, on and off the field.''
