Joe Galuvao released by the Rabbitohs to join Parramatta

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have released Joe Galuvao from the remaining year of his contract to join the Parramatta Eels for 2008 and 2009.

Galuvao joined the Rabbitohs in 2006 on a three-year deal and he was granted a release from the final year of that agreement.

South Sydney CEO Shane Richardson said: "We feel this is the best result for both Joe and the Club and we wish him the best of luck with the Eels next year."

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are the most successful Club in Rugby League. Established in 1908, the South Sydney Club has won 20 first grade premierships and provided 62 internationals for the Australian side, and have famously worn their cardinal red and myrtle green colours since inception. In 1925, South Sydney was dubbed 'The Pride of the League' and the Rabbitohs are known as this to this day. The rebirth of the Rabbitohs began on 7 June, 2006 through a new partnership between Russell Crowe, Peter Holmes a Court and the 8000 Members of the Club.

A punishing 34-12 win over local rival Souths Logan has Easts firming in the race for the final five, leap-frogging Tweed Heads into fourth.

However the win appears to have come at a cost for the Tigers, with Joe Galuvao and Kev Stephensen both playing little part in the match after being injured early. Star recruit Galuvao appeared to hyperextend his elbow in an awkward tackle, while centre Stephensen left the field with concerns about his neck.

Their absence made the victory even more meritorious, as the visitors scraped through the majority of the match with a two-man bench.

Only poor handling stopped the Tigers leading by a greater margin than 18-6 at halftime, with numerous breaks splitting open the Magpies' defence.

John Tamanika scored in the first minute from a Souths Logan mistake, before a double from Steve Beattie and another try by Justin McKay had Easts up 18-0

As they are prone to do, the Magpies struck back with a truly freakish try, not surprisingly featuring excitement machine Quentin Laulu-Togagae.

Right on halftime Laulu-Togagae chip kicked ahead, only to get a mongrel of a bounce. Somehow picking the ball up off his toes, the Magpies fullback stumbled and looked set for a comical faceplant. But in a sign of his agility, Laulu-Togagae flicked the ball up to teammate Kyle Lodge who raced in to score.

Unfortunately for the West Enders it was a cheque they could only cash once and they struggled to have the same fortune when play resumed in the second half.

Once again the Magpies conceded a try in the first minute of play, Beattie racing in for his third try of the afternoon.

Souths Logan then made the score a more respectable 22-12 when USA winger Tyrone Coppedge scored a good try, but there was to be no denying the Tigers.

In a composed ending to the match Easts crossed a further two times, first via a scampering Luke Capewell and secondly from a bullocking Tamanika.

Now with 16 tries for the year, Tamanika is firming to take out this year's title of leading try-scorer.
For Souths Logan, otherwise impressive prop Dennis Conlon was placed on report for a lifting tackle.

Round 19 has Easts hosting Burleigh at Langlands Park at 2pm Saturday. The match looms as one of the biggest crunch games of the season, with the finals hopes of both teams largely resting on the outcome.

Souths Logan plays Norths at Bishop Park at 3pm on Saturday.
