Source: www.hullfc.comTwo of the toughest characters in Rugby League are set to step in the ring to support their close friend Steve Prescott.
Hull FC's Lee Radford and Wigan Warriors Stuart Fielden are preparing to go toe-to-toe early next year as part of a professional boxing card at The Kingston Communications Stadium.
The one-off bout, which is being attended by some of the games greats, takes place on Friday, February 2nd with all funds going to provide Steve with some financial assistance to help him through what must be a traumatic time for the whole family.
Sponsors are required for the souvenir brochure as well as raffle and auction prizes. Adverts will start at £100 and a circulation of well over 2000 brochures is anticipated, it's hoped they will enable all the proceeds of the souvenir brochure to go directly to Steve. Any further assistance such as sponsor or advertising or raffle prizes is welcome.
Lee Radford, said:
"Stuart has had a bit of sparing recently with Willie Mason and half the Tongan travelling party gave me a bit of a warm up so it should be a decent fight. We are going to enjoy it and hopefully raise plenty of money for a great friend."
"We are expecting all the big names to come and join us on the night and although the professional boxers on show will obviously be sharper than me and Stuart we will be putting on a real show for the public."The full professional boxing programme which will take place prior to the 'Battle of Super League' will include some of the regions finest Boxing talents.
In addition top comedian Mike Lodge will keep the crowd entertained followed by speeches from Rugby League legends, a raffle and an auction including sporting memorabilia.
Organiser of the event, Mike Smith, said:
"Lee and Stuart, who play arguably the toughest game in the world, are prepared to stand toe-to-toe to raise money for 'a mate'. Therefore, we would ask you to lend your support and join with us to make this a night to remember.
"Even before we announced the night officially the interest in the Rugby world was phenomenal and we have already sold half of the allocated space."To support the event or for further information contact Mike Smith on 07803 831979

Source: www.wiganwarriors.comThe Wigan club have responded angrily to comments made by two other clubs with regard to the signing of Stuart Fielden and the salary cap.
Brian Noble said,
"We are delighted to have signed Stuart and he is a great addition to our squad. The acquisition of Stuart is within the rules of the RFL and we refute any accusations made by anyone within the Rugby League fraternity. It is my job to carry on to turn this club around and improve performances of the players and try to avoid relegation."Wigan Chairman Maurice Lindsay backed his Head Coach and today said,
"We are well in control of our salary cap and we have advised the Rugby Football League of our exact situation. Comments from two of our relegation rivals are I assume in respond to leading questions. We are well aware of our salary cap requirements and we are working within those requirements. It is no-ones business but I can volunteer the information that we have no further signings planned at this stage on the contrary we have lost some players today to retirement and movement to other clubs."Lindsay also re-acted angrily to press speculation that the Fielden deal would cost £1.5 million in total, Lindsay said,
"These days people seem to be able to simply think of a number and double it. It is a sad way to go about things but clubs just have to keep putting wild speculation right. Stuart Fielden will not be the highest paid player in the game although it is a very good contract and obviously better than the amount he earned at Bradford. He has also earned it. Wild speculation always comes up when Wigan sign a player. We were unable to sign Adrian Morley recently because the sums involved were too high for us and much more that we are paying Stuart Fielden. Stuart cannot be tagged as the highest paid player in the game because that will simply not be true."News sent by:
