Deacon extends contract with Bulls
Wed April 16, 2008
Source: www.bradfordbulls.co.uk

Bradford Bulls have today announced that Paul Deacon has agreed a new two year contract and will remain at the Grattan Stadium until the end of the 2010 season.

Deacon, who is now in his eleventh season with the Bulls and enjoying a well deserved Testimonial, joined the club from Oldham Bears at the start of the 1998 season. Since then he has developed into one off the game's greatest talents and holds the points and goal kicking records at the club. Deacon has made 292 appearances, scoring 70 tries, 1002 goals and 22 drop goals for a points' total of 2306 and this season he has kicked 42 goals from 49 attempts for an average of 85.71%

Deacon is delighted to have extended his stay at the Grattan Stadium.

"It was an easy decision to make because this is home from home for me now. I've been here that many years, I am part of the furniture! There were a couple of other clubs interested but if Bradford still wanted me I always wanted to stay here. I'm really pleased they do and to sign another two years at a top club like this, I couldn't be happier."

Deacon admits he would love to finish his career at Bradford:

"I'll be 31 close to turning 32 when this contract's up but I have no visions of retiring.

"I still feel in as good a shape as I ever have and probably don't feel as old as I am. Who knows what will happen when I'm up again. I think it would be hard playing for anyone else."

Bulls Coach Steve McNamara said today:

"It's fantastic news for the club. I am absolutely delighted that he has signed for the next two years as he is a very influential player for us. He has completed ten years service with the club and is in very good form right now and long may that form continue. He's Bradford through and through and we're delighted he's decided to stay."

Deacon and Hicks lead the stats after Super League Round 9
Thu April 3, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill
Bradford halfback Paul Deacon and new Warrington recruit Chris Hicks lead the way as Leading Point Scorer and Leading Try Scorer respectively after Round 9 of the 2008 engage Super League premiership.

In an alarming statistic the five highest try scorers in the Super League competition are Australian or New Zealand players with Scott Donald, Brent Webb, Daniel Fitzherny and Jake Webster the next four players below Hicks.

Deacon holds a one-point lead ahead of Kevin Sinfield in the point scoring stakes, who in turn is a point ahead of Thomas Bosc and another point to Pat Richards. Deacon also holds the lead for most goals thus far, landing two more successful shots than Sinfield.

Eight players have landed one-pointers in the opening nine rounds of competition with the biggest surprise being not a single successful drop goal from Warrington's Lee Briers who has been the modern day master of potting over the extra point. Briers currently has played eight games this season for two tries and 26 goals, but the absence of a drop goal has been the biggest surprise.
