Campbell named captain of Indigenous Dreamtime Team
Fri October 10, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill
Preston Campbell has been named captain of an impressive Indigenous Dreamtime Team to play the New Zealand Maori side in the 'Welcome to Country' game which will be part of the opening ceremony to this month's Rugby League World Cup.

The match will be played at the Sydney Football Stadium on Sunday 26th October as a preliminary to the World Cup Opening Ceremony and the Australia v New Zealand clash.

Campbell, who played fullback or five-eighth for the Titans this year was selected at halfback and he'll partner Penrith's Maurice Blair in the halves with Peter Moore Rookie of the Year award winner Chris Sandow selected on the bench.

The 2003 premiership winner with Penrith said, "Winning a premiership is every player's dream, but to represent your people is an honour that all the boys are proud of.

"To be named as captain is something I will cherish for the rest of my life."

North Queensland prop Carl Webb has been named vice-captain of the side. Webb represented Australia in the Centenary Test earlier this year, but missed out on World Cup selection with Petero Civoniceva, Steve Price, Josh Perry and Brent Kite preferred as Australia's options up front.

Brisbane and Queensland forward Sam Thaiday has been named in the squad, but is subject to a fitness test.

Neil Henry has been named coach of the Indigenous Dreamtime Team. Henry coached the Raiders this season and will be in charge of the Cowboys for the next four years.

Henry said, "These guys are not just great athletes, they play a distinct brand of football that all fans love to watch.

"To call it an intuitive style does not do justice to the ball-runners who search for the weakest link in the defence and then attack."

Former Parramatta, London and Widnes utility Denis Moran won automatic selection as 18th man after being named man of the series at the recent Australian Rugby League-endorsed Aboriginal Knockout.

Preston Campbell Injury from City v Country clash
Fri May 4, 2007
Source: www.titans.com.au

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans fullback and inaugural signing Preston Campbell has been sidelined for between 4-6 weeks after injuring his knee during last night's City v Country Origin clash at BCU International stadium in Coffs Harbour. City won the clash 12-6.

Fears that Campbell had suffered damage to his Posterior Cruciate ligament in his left knee were confirmed when the Country representative visited Jetstar Titans Doctor Paul Ohmeson this afternoon.

While the injury does not require surgery, Campbell will have an MRI scan tomorrow in Brisbane and will wear a brace for the next two weeks before commencing rehabilitation.

Former England fullback Richie Mathers will make his NRL debut for the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans against the North Queensland Cowboys on Monday night.
