Source: www.parraeels.com.auThe Eels had no better luck in the Toyota Cup, losing to the Rabbitohs by 38 points to 22.
The 10th placed Rabbitohs were too hot for the fifth placed Eels, scoring seven tries to four to run out relatively easy winners.
The game started badly and quickly got worse for the Eels with Rabbitohs winger Cameron Pitman scoring a length of the field try less than two minutes after the kick off.
It took the Eels ten minutes to open their account, captain and stand in halfback Kris Keating escaping the grasp of three defenders to score wide out.
Souths then turned on the class and within the space of the next 15 minutes led by 22 points to 4 thanks to three straight tries.
The first two went the way of Malcolm Webster, the fullback showing great evasion to give the Rabbitohs a handy 12 point lead.
Pitman then scored in the corner to help the home side kick clear.
Tries either side of half time to Ray Tafokitau and Trent Trotter all but secured Souths the victory, the Eels simply making too many errors to get themselves back in the match.
The Eels gave their fans some hope midway through the second half, tries to Tony Williams and Tim Robinson seeing them reduce the Rabbitohs lead to 34-16.
However Webster again turned on the class 12 minutes from full time to put the result beyond all doubt, kicking for himself and soccering into the in-goal before winning the race to score.
Fareni Moefaauo scored for the visitors with six minutes left on the clock, taking the score along to 38-22, the strike rounding out the scoring on a disappointing night out for the Eels.
